A Study of Sanskrit Drama and Dramaturgy

  • Drama is an important tool for preparing students to live and work in a world i.e increasingly teams oriented rather than hierarchical. Drama also has student develop tolerance and empathy. In order to play another a role competently an actor must be able to fully inhabit another soul. Drama develops students/ actors communication skills and make them strong people. 
  • Dasarupaka is also a good poetic literature dealing way ten rupakas of which nataka is one. The salient features given in the book are important for creation of a successful literature.

Grammar and Translation

  • Vyakaran without Grammer we cannot understand any language. In order to learn Sanskrit language perfectly it is necessary to read Grammerand Grammatical Literature like laghusiddhantakoumudi, Ashtadhyayi etc.
  • Grammar has been taken a limb of the Vedas (Vedanta) because without it the meaning of the suktas and their application (viniyog) would not have been perfect.
  • Imperfect pronunciation and the wrong application of the Suktas may lead a man to the world of disaster which is called VagVajara and Apshabda etc.
  • The study of grammer leaves a man to the worlds of Moksha (Libration) as endorsed by Bhartrihari.

Vedic Literature

  • The Vedic truths do well to all beings in the world. They aim at bringing about the spiritual and material uplift of everyone. Sectarianism has no place in it. The Vedas contain principles that impart peace and contentment to the whole world. It is proved that modern-day discoveries, inventions, theories, concepts are broadly based on Vedic knowledge/literature. Many scientists have studied Vedic literature to get in-depth insights into scientific, spiritual, psychological, behavioural knowledge.

Dharmashastra and Arthashastra

  • Dharmasastra is the source of our modern law. It is often referred to by the advocates and judges even at the apex level. The slogan "Dharmorakshati Rakshitah" is popularly known in India and aboard. This department offers various courses from UG to doctoral level covering all the important aspects of this discipline.
  • The participant will be able to read and understand the Sanskrit text. The participant will get familiar with the methodology of Ancient Indian Administrative Science. The participant will develop a perspective to study the Sanskrit texts related to administration.

In Indian philosophy, human life is validated through four pillars Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. Dharma refers to responsibility, Artha refers to success, Kama refers to fun and Moksha to freedom. Indian philosophy recognizes the fact of unity in diversity. 9. Indian conception of education and of philosophy believes in cooperation between individuals and not in mutual competition. The principle of cooperation is extended even to the animals world and the forces of nature.

Historical Linguistics and Indo-Aryan

  • The course of Indo-Aryan Linguistics falls within the characterizing teachings of the "Indian Subcontinent" curriculum of the course "Languages, Cultures and Societies of Asia and Mediterranean Africa". The aim of the course is to provide students with a theoretical framework and reference tools enabling them to develop necessary knowledge for the study of Indo-Aryan linguistics (diachronically and synchronically) and philology.

In particular, the course is divided in two parts. In the first part, students will be presented with fundamental concepts of the three major stages related to the evolution of Indo-Aryan languages (Old-, Middle- and New- (or Modern) Indo-Aryan), with special emphasis on the rich literature representing these diachronic stages and on the sociolinguistics of Indo-Aryan languages during the Middle Indo-Aryan period. Moreover we will pay attention to the main linguistic changes during Old-, Middle- and New- (or Modern) Indo-Aryan. In the second part of the course we will focus on the history of Hindi language and on its standardization during the 19th and 20th centuries.
