ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF STUDENTS
The Department has signed a MoU with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd., under the Academia-Industry Interaction Programme, to provide one year scholarship to the topper of first two semesters of M.Sc. (Applied Geology).
Students of the department have carved niche for themselves in various state and central departments like higher education, school level, Kashmir Administrative Services, various scientific institutes, NGOs, defense services, and private sector, etc. More than 160 students of the department have qualified National Eligibility Test, State eligibility Test, and Gate Examinations. Being a science field the students of the department are exposed to geological field work around Jammu on every weekend. As a part of the curriculum, every year the PG students visit various parts of the country to acquire field knowledge of various geological rock formations, structures, mineral deposits, fauna and flora, ecosystems and biodiversity of different regions of India. The research scholars of this department have been regularly visiting different laboratories in India and abroad in connection with their research work. They have been presenting their research work at national as well as at International forums and brought laurels to the state by winning different national and international awards.

In the last five years, more than 110 students of this department have been placed in various governments as well as private sector.

“GEOCLUB” of the department is a student driven body responsible for various students oriented academic and competitive activities like Filed Photograph exhibition/ competition; Geological Quiz, Essay Writing, Fossil hunting, Lecture under Meet your Alumni programme.
The department has well equipped Laboratories, computer lab and a well established library with more than 65000 books and journals in order to cater the needs of M.Sc. students and research scholars. The D.N. Wadia Museum of Natural History exhibits good collection of rocks, minerals, ores and fossils. All the faculty members are actively involved in the research activities. In last 8 years, the faculty members have been awarded research grants to the tune of 11 crores in form of research projects from the various funding agencies (DST, MOES, SERB, ISRO, UGC, NRSA, ENI, EGI, ASI, etc.). The major thrust areas of the Project are climate change, Biostratigraphy and Sedimentology, Mineral Exploration, Landslide Hazard Zonation, Groundwater and Seismology.
