3rd Chancellor’s Trophy 2025–26 Championship Commences at University of Jammu

The 3rd Chancellor’s Trophy 2025–26 (Men & Women) Championship 2026, organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu, commenced today at the University of Jammu, after it was declared open by the Chief Guest Prof. Satya Paul, Coordinator RUSA, University of Jammu; Dr. Dhritika Singh, Joint Registrar Finance, University of Jammu; and Dr. Showkat Hussain, Principal, Government Physical Education College, Ganderbal. The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of a large gathering of dignitaries, players, officials, employees, students of the University, and members of civil society.
The Directorate of Sports & Physical Education is organizing the 3rd Chancellor’s Trophy 2025–26 from 15th to 19th January 2026, featuring participation from over 800 athletes representing various universities and institutions from the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and neighboring states. Competitions are being held in Volleyball (Men), Kabaddi (Men), Football (Men), Wrestling (Men), Table Tennis (Men), Kho-Kho (Women), Badminton (Women), Basketball (Men & Women), Handball (Men & Women), and Athletics (Men & Women).
While addressing the gathering, Prof. Satya Paul, congratulated the organizers for conducting such a mega sporting event, emphasizing that such championships provide an excellent platform for students from different universities and institutions to interact, foster unity, and showcase their sporting talent. He appreciated the enthusiastic participation of players and officials from across Jammu & Kashmir and neighbouring universities. On the occasion, he also unveiled the mascot of the 3rd Chancellor’s Trophy 2026.
Earlier, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu, presented the welcome address and briefed the audience about the championship. He highlighted that sports and games inculcate discipline, camaraderie, and togetherness among students, while serving as a constructive channel for their energy and vitality. He reiterated the commitment of the University of Jammu to nurture sporting talent that will bring laurels to the region and the nation.
An impressive demonstration of Kabaddi and Yoga was also conducted during the inaugural ceremony of this mega event.
The proceedings of the function were conducted by Dr. Vimal Kishore along with Ms. Lakshika Jamwal and Mr. Yamnesh Thakur, while the formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Mandeep Singh, Assistant Professor, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu.
Among others present on the occasion were Dr. Akhilesh Sharma, Sh. Vimal Kishore, Sh. Vikas Karlopia, Sh. Ravish Vaid, Sh. Gagan Kumar, Sh. Jai Bharat, Sd. P. D. Singh, S. Harinderpal Singh, Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Dr. Mahak, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Dr. Divesh Kumar, Ms. Richa Mandla, and officials of the participating teams.

The tournament, organized under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, continues to strengthen the University’s sporting culture and holistic student development through structured physical education and inter-collegiate competition.
The matches were officiated by Sh. Jeevan Lal, Sh. Arjun Sharma, Sh. Ravish Vaid, and Sh. Vikas Karlopia, Ms. Sakshi Dabgotra, Ms. Mena Ragesh and Anil Singh who ensured fair and rule-bound conduct of all matches.
