JU Vice-Chancellor felicitates CDOE student on UNESCO MGIEP Youth Fellowship

JAMMU August 21: Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai, felicitated Jeevika Misri, a Semester II student of PG English at the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), on her return after participating in the UNESCO MGIEP Youth Fellowship on Leadership for Peace and Sustainability at Humanitas College, Kyung Hee University, South Korea, from June 25 to July 4, 2026.

Jeevika represented the University of Jammu and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir at the international youth programme devoted to peacebuilding, leadership and sustainable development.

Congratulating her on the achievement, Prof. Umesh Rai said her experience also underlined the need for universities to create greater space for experiential learning, fieldwork, cultural engagement and international exposure.

“A student’s learning should not be measured only by what he or she writes in an examination, but also by what the student is able to learn, experience and accomplish beyond the classroom,” Prof. Rai said. He stressed that exposure beyond conventional classroom teaching helps students develop confidence, perspective and the ability to engage meaningfully with society.

Prof. Pankaj K. Srivastava, Director, CDOE, also congratulated Jeevika and applauded her efforts, describing her selection for the fellowship as an achievement that brought pride to the Centre.

Jeevika Misri is a youth leader and cultural practitioner from Jammu. She has represented Jammu and Kashmir as a folk dancer during the G20 Summit in Kashmir and at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. She has also represented the University of Jammu at events organised under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities in theatre, dance and debate, and was runner-up at the State Youth Parliament in 2025.

She also volunteers with the Sharika Foundation, where she conducts empathy- and theatre-based workshops for children from displaced communities.

Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies, appreciated Jeevika’s achievement and her representation at the international level. Prof. Anupama Vohra; Dr. Sumita Sharma, Joint Registrar; and Dr. Jasleen Kaur were also present on the occasion.
