Two-Day Workshop on “EEG-Based Brain–Computer Interface” Held at Bhaderwah Campus
Bhaderwah, August 24: The Department of Computer Science & IT, Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu, in collaboration with g.tec Medical Engineering GmbH and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), organised a two-day workshop on “EEG-Based Brain–Computer Interface (BCI): Principles, Applications and Hands-on Training” on August 21–22, 2026.
The workshop was held under the patronage of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, and Prof. Rahul Gupta, Rector, Bhaderwah Campus, with Prof. Jatinder Manhas as Convenor and Dr. Ashok Sharma, In-charge Head, Department of Computer Science & IT, as Co-Convenor.
The workshop aimed to provide participants with theoretical knowledge and practical exposure to EEG-based Brain–Computer Interface (BCI), Visual Evoked Potentials (VEPs), EEG signal acquisition and emerging neurotechnology.
Prof. Rahul Gupta joined the programme virtually and congratulated the Department for organising the workshop. He highlighted the growing importance of Computer Science and emerging technologies and emphasised the need for practical exposure to contemporary technologies.
Around 100 students, scholars and faculty members from different departments participated in the workshop. Mr. Anubhav Rakshit, Field Application Scientist, g.tec Medical Engineering GmbH, Austria, served as the resource person and provided hands-on training using professional EEG and BCI systems.
During the workshop, participants learned about electrode placement, impedance testing, EEG/VEP acquisition, signal processing, feature extraction and BCI evaluation. They were also introduced to applications of BCI in visual spellers and neuro-rehabilitation.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Mr. Anubhav Rakshit was felicitated with a memento and certificate of appreciation for his valuable contribution. Participants appreciated the interactive and practical nature of the workshop and expressed keen interest in further exploring BCI, biomedical signal processing, artificial intelligence and neurotechnology.
Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Organizing Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the University leadership, resource person, organising team, participants and media representatives for their support in making the workshop successful.
The organising team comprised Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Ajay Lakhnotra, Bablu Sharma, Parvesh Singh, Yasser Ali, Abhay Khajuria, Diksha Sambyal, Waseem Akram, Jahanvi Kotwal and Arham Saba, all from the Department of Computer Science & IT. Other members from various departments included Prof. Rakesh Sharma, Prof. Subhash Chander, Dr. Rohit Bhagat, Dr. Kuljeet Singh, Dr. Chhering Tandup, Dr. Shayan Javed, Dr. Umesh Choudhary, Dr. Mohd Avais, Abdul Mujeeb Sheikh and Arif Haleem Khateeb.
