Kathua Campus, University of Jammu organised an impactful interactive awareness programme on Role of Youth in Building a Drug-Free Society” to sensitise students about the growing menace of drug abuse and inspire them to become responsible agents of change.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus, underscored the transformative role of youth in nation-building, stating that the awareness, determination and moral responsibility of young minds are crucial in eradicating the drug menace. He emphasised the role of educational institutions in nurturing responsible and value-driven citizens.

The programme featured expert sessions by Sh. Bhagwan Dass, Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Armed Reserved, Kathua and Dr. Pallavi Sharma, Aesthetic Physician, Kathua. Sh. Bhagwan Dass elaborated on the legal implications and social consequences of drug abuse, stressing the urgent need for continuous awareness initiatives. Referring to the ongoing 100-day anti-drug campaign initiated by the Government of India under the guidance of The Hon’ble Prime Minister and The Lieutenant Governor of J&K, he highlighted the importance of institutional support in strengthening such efforts. He also emphasised early identification of at-risk individuals and encouraged a proactive approach in extending timely support and rehabilitation.

Dr. Pallavi Sharma highlighted the severe physical and psychological impact of substance abuse, noting that addiction not only affects individuals but also disrupts families and communities. She urged students to adopt a healthy lifestyle and seek timely help when needed.

On the occasion, Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Incharge Head, MCA Department, emphasised that early awareness amongst the youth, counselling and positive peer influence are key to preventing drug abuse. Also stressed the need for collective responsibility, highlighting that coordinated efforts by institutions, families and administration are essential to effectively tackle this growing concern.

The programme was organised by Dr. Rajani Kumari Sarangal, Incharge Head, The Management School, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu, who highlighted the importance of sustained awareness and youth engagement in building a responsible and drug-free society.

The event also witnessed enthusiastic student participation through creative expressions. Riya Verma and Bhavya Gupta presented thought-provoking poetry, while Anshika delivered a compelling speech. A powerful skit by Mannat, Vansh, Simran, Khushi, Nitin and Manish effectively portrayed the harsh realities of drug addiction.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Surekha Pakhwarya and the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Rajani Kumari Sarangal. The programme was gracefully anchored by Manya Mahajan. Udhay Mathur and DeepanshuUttam provided valuable support in documenting event.

The event was successfully organised and coordinated by Dr. Ritu Sharma and Ms. Princee Verma.The event was also graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Pankaj Khajuria, Lt. Amit Sharma and Er. Akhil Kumar, whose presence added value to the occasion. The programme was attended by distinguished faculty members including Dr. Sunny Sharma, Dr. Bharti Rana, Dr. Nisha Choudhary, Dr. Reemani Verma, Er.
