SEMESTER I

  • PSUDTC101 HISTROY OF URDU LITERATURE 

After successfully completing this course students will be able to understand: 

  1.  the important historical events of Urdu language. 
  2. the most important schools of thought of Urdu literature viz Luknow School and Delhi School of thought. 
  3. Social, political, economic and literary conditions up to 1857. 
  4.   the origin and development of Urdu language in prose as well as in poetry. 
  5. To make students aware about Composite culture and urdu literature. 
  •  PSUDTC102 DACCANI LITERATURE 

After successfully completing this course students will be able : 

  1. To understand social, cultural , political and literary conditions of  Behamani, Qutub Shahi and Aadil Shahi periods. 
  2. To know about the origin and evolution of Daccani literature. 
  3. To understand the peculiarities of Daccani Urdu  in respect of syntax and phonology. 
  4. To acquire a thorough information about various literary pieces of urdu that evolved between 12 to 17th century in Daccan 
  5. To know Daccani Ghazal, Qaisada and Marisa its subject matter , importance and utility. 
  6. To know Mula Wajhi, Gawasi, Nusrati Quli Qutb Shah as literary Artists  . 
  • PSUDTC103 URDU GHAZAL 

After successfully completing this course students will be able to understand: 

  1.  The form of Ghazal. 
  2. The distinctive features of urdu ghazal. 
  3. The various techniques involved in crafting of urdu ghazal. 
  4. The impact of Persian Ghazal in urdu Ghazal. 
  5. The poetic art of some important Ghazal Poets of Urdu namely Mir Taqi Mir, Aatish, Ghalib and Momin. 
  6. The art and thought of some important modern Ghazal Poets Hali, Firaq , Nasir Kazmi etc 
  7. The Impact of progressive urdu writers on urdu ghazal 
  • PSUDTC104 QASIDA AND MARSIA 

The purpose of this Course is not only to acquaint the students with the meaning of the genres concerned but also their thematic and formative development. 

After successfully completing this course students will be able to understand: 

  1. As a poetic form of Marisa writing , its importance and utility. 
  2.  Techniques, style and importance of writings of different poets of classical genres. 
  3.  The pre- requisites for a literary genre to be called a classical one. 
  4. To acquire knowledge about the form and content of various classical genres of urdu literature viz Marsia and Qasida. 
  5. The distinctive features of works of some important poets of classical genres of urdu Sauda, Zauq, Anees and Daber. 
  • PSUDTC105 DEVELOPMENT OF URDU LANGAUGE AND LITERATURE IN J&K 

After successfully completing this course students will be able to understand: 

  1. The brief knowledge about the origin and development of Urdu language and literature and its importance in Jammu and Kashmir. 
  2. to make the students conversant with the various socio-cultural imperatives which led to the development of Urdu language in the state. 
  3. To provide information about the regime of Mahraja Ghulab Singh, Mahraja Ranjeet Singh and importance of urdu in this particular period. 
  4. To make students aware about works and contribution of different organizations of urdu in the development of urdu language in Jammu and Kashmir. 
  5.  To acquire knowledge about the form and content of various  genres of urdu literature in Jammu and Kashmir. 
  • PSUDTE106 ELEMENTARY PERSIAN 

After successfully completing this course students will be able to understand: 

  1. The elementary knowledge of Persian language and literature. 
  2. How to make sentences in Persian language. 
  3. Thee basic grammatical concepts of Persian language. 
  4. about the works of some important poets of Persian viz Maulana Rumi, Seikh Saddi, Hafiz Sherani, Alama Iqbal etc. 
  • PSUDTE107 THE ART OF TRANSLATION 

After successfully completing this course students will be able to understand: 

  1. The importance of translation. 
  2. To make students aware about literary works of different language. 
  3. The various forms and techniques of translation. 
  4. To get acquainted with the various methods for coining of terms in the process of translation. 
  5. To develop the skill of translation and essay writing. 

Semester-II 

  • PSUDTC201 HISTORY OF URDU LANGUAGE 

After successfully completing this course students will be able to understand: 

  1. To get first hand knowledge about the science of languages. 
  2. To know about the various families of language viz Astric, Dravidian, Tibit Cheeni,Hind Aryayi etc. 
  3. To make students aware with views and thought regarding origin of urdu language of different linguists. 
  4. The morphology, phonology and syntax of urdu language. 
  5. Different  dialects of Urdu Language 
  • PSUDTC202 STUDY OF URDU MASNAVI 

By the end of this course, the students will be able to: 

  1. Social, cultural, political and literary conditions of that era. 
  2. Have in depth knowledge of the history and major text of urdu Masnavi. 
  3. Daccani Masnavi, its subject matter, importance and utility. 
  4. North Indian Masnavi, its subject matter, importance and utility. 
  5. To analyse some master pieces of various urdu masnavi writers  like Gavasi, Muqeemi, Nusrati , Rustami, Ibn e Nishati etc. 
  • PSUDTC203 STUDY OF CLASSICAL FICTION 

After the completing of this course, students will be able to understand: 

  1. The meaning and art of Dastaan. 
  2.  To know about the origin and development of Dastaan.( The oldest form of urdu prose) 
  3.  Urdu Dastaan ,its subject matter, importance and utility 
  4. The  role of Dastaan in the promotion of Urdu Prose 
  5. The reasons of rise and fall of urdu Dastaan. 
  6. To analyze some important urdu Dastaan’s  ( Subras, Fasani Aajaib, Bagh –o Bahar) 
  • PSUDTC204 LITERARY MOVEMENTS AND TRENDS 

By the end of this course, the students will be able: 

After successfully completing this course students will be able to understand: 

  1. The nature of literary trends and movements. 
  2. To know about the various literary trends and movements that emerged in urdu language and literature. 
  3. To analyze the impact of various literary movements viz Aligarh Movement, Progressive Movement, Modernism and Post-Modernism on Urdu language and literature. 
  4. The influence of European culture and trends in urdu language and literature. 
  5. To know how the new trend of urdu poetry developed by Anjuman-e-punjab etc. 
  • PSUDTC205 STUDY OF MIR TAQI MIR 

By the end of this course, the students will be able: 

  1. To know about the art and thought of legendary and famous poet Mir Taqi Mir. 
  2. To analyze the poetry of Mir Taqi Mir using various tools of criticism. 
  3. To compare the art of Mir Taqi Mir with his contemporaries. 
  • PSUDTC206 URDU JOURNALISM 

By the end of this course, the students will be able: 

  1. To understand News- sources of News, various types of News i.e local , national and international. All current events , sports news , crime report, employment news etc. 
  2. Interview, dialogue writing , script writing , editorial , column writing, 
  3. To know about types of Journalism. 
  4. Origin and development of Urdu Journalism. 
  5. Evolutionary development of T.V in India-T.V , Drama, teleflim, film Drama, film serial , advertisement , use and importance of computers and internet. 
  6. To understand reportage and its types. 
  7. To understand the art of writing the news for newspapers, radio , T.V  etc 
  8. To know the role of journalism in the changing world. 
  9. To know the importance of language in Journalism. 
  10. To understand Journalistic laws and ethics. 

Semester-III 

  • PSUDTC301 PRINCIPLE OF LITERARY CRITICISM 

After completing this course, students will be able: 

  1.  To understand definition, techniques, principles, importance, aims and objectives of criticism. 
  2. Effects of European and Middle East thoughts on urdu criticism. 
  3. To know about the various types of urdu criticism. 
  4. To critically analyze some literary samples using various methods of literary criticism. 
  5. To know about prominent critics of urdu language and literature viz, Mulana Altaf Hussain Hali , Shubli Numani, Al Ahmed Saroor, Shams u Rehaman Farooqi , Gopi Chand Narnag etc. 
  • PSUDTC302 STUDY OF URDU NOVEL 

After completing this course, students will be able: 

  1. To understand the technical features of Novel. 
  2. To understand the kinds of urdu Novel. 
  3. Students will be able to understand chronological development and forms of novel writing. 
  4. Also students will be able to understand the life sketch, literary works and writing style of prominent urdu novel writer’s viz Dupty  Nazir ,Prem Chand, Mirza Hadi Ruswa etc. 
  5. To know about the milestones of urdu Novel. 
  6. To analyze some important urdu novels as prescribed in the syllabus. 
  7. To understand what is difference between novel and short story. 
  • PSUDTC303 STUDY OF NAZM-E-JADEED 

By the end of this course, the students will be able: 

  1. Students will be able to understand chronological development and forms of modern urdu poetry. 
  2. To understand the different forms of urdu Nazm ( Aazad Nazam, Paband Nazam, Nasri Nazm, Nazm e Mura, Hico  etc) 
  3. To understand the variations of form in nazm. To get verse with distinctive style of various nazm poets of urdu. 
  4. To know the life sketch, literary works and writing style of prominent urdu Nazam  writer’s viz Nazir Akbar Aabadi, Hali, Akbar Ila Abadi, Josh , Faiz Ahmad Faiz ,  Alama Iqbal,Makhdoom, Nazar Mohd Rashid, Akhtar ul Imaan etc. 
  5. To analyze some important urdu Nazm’s viz  Subhe Azadi, Chara Ghar, Sumander ka bulawa, Hassan Kozaghar, Bazaamad etc 
  • PSUDTC304  STUDY OF URDU DRAMA 

By the end of this course, the students will be able: 

  1. To understand the art of urdu drama. 
  2. To know about the origin and development of urdu drama. 
  3. To understand the new trends in urdu Drama. 
  4. To know the impact of progressive writers on urdu drama. 
  5. To understand the role and importance of (IPTA) in the development of urdu drama. 
  6. To analyze some master pieces of various urdu dramatists like Amanat Laknavi, Agha Hashir Kashmiri, Mohmmad Mujeeb, Mohammad Hasan etc. 
  • PSUDTC305 STUDY OF HUMOR AND SATIRE 

By the end of this course, the students will be able: 

  1. The students should write and understand what is humor and satire. 
  2. After the completion of this course the students will fell happy and enjoy. They feel it as a interesting course in urdu literature. 
  3. To know the effects of humor and satire with reference to some of the leading writers of urdu literature. 
  4. To analyze some master pieces of various urdu humor and satire writers viz Farhat ullah Beigh, Pitras Bukhars, Mujtaba Hussain , Kanaya Lal Kapoor etc. 

 

  • PSUDTE306 STUDY OF NON FICTION 

By the end of this course, the students will be able. 

  1. To understand the difference between Fiction and Non Fiction. 
  2. To know about the various non fictional genres of urdu literature. 
  3. To analyze some non fictional samples of some of the important writers of urdu language. 
  • PSUDTO307 STUDY OF URDU LITERATURE 

The aim of this course is to offer students a brief knowledge of urdu literature through poetry , prose and grammar. This course helps the students for rapid reading and writing. The following literary part is included for learning. 

  1. Textual study of Murhum ki yaad mai, qaul ka pass, lajwanti. 
  2. Textual study of letters of Mirza Ghalib. 
  3. Textual study of Urdu Nazm ( Admi nama, humdardi, nisar mai tere galiyoon mai) 
  4. Textual study of Urdu Ghazal ( Wali, Meer, Daag Faiz) 

Semester-IV 

  • PSUDTC401 STUDY OF URDU SHORT STORY 

By the end of this course, the students will be able. 

  1. To understand the form of short story. 
  2. To know about the developmental stages of urdu short story. 
  3. To know about the various master pieces of urdu short story. 
  4. To check the influence of various literary trends and movements on urdu short story. 
  5. Students will be able to understand chronological development and forms of short story writing . 
  6. Also students will be able to understand the life sketch, literary works and writing style of prominent urdu short story writer’s viz Prem Chand, Manto, Krishan Chander, Ismat , Bedi, Quart u lain Hyder, Intizar Hussain , Jeelani Banoo, Surinder Prakash etc. 
  7. To know about the milestones of urdu short story. 
  8. To analyze some important urdu short story as prescribed in the syllabus 
  • PSUDTC402 SPECIAL STUDY OF GHALIB 

By the end of this course, the students will be able. 

  1. To know about the life and works of Mirza Ghalib. 
  2. To analyze the poetry of Ghalib using various tools of criticism. 
  3. To compare the art of Mirza Ghalib with his contemporaries. 
  • PSUDTC403 SPECIAL STUDY OF IQBAL 

By the end of this course, the students will be able to: 

  1. To know about the art and thought of legendary and famous poet Alama Iqbal. 
  2. To analyze the poetry of Alama Iqbal using various tools of criticism. 
  3. To compare the art of Alama Iqbal with his contemporaries. 
  4. To understand the ideology of Iqbal regarding patriotism, Khudi , Mard-e-momin and be khudi. 
  • PSUDTC404 SPECIAL STUDY O F PREM CHAND 

By the end of this course, the students will be able. 

  1. To know about the life and works of Munshi Prem Chand. 
  2. To analyze the short stories of Munshi Prem Chand using various tools of criticism. 

To compare the art of Prem Chand with his contemporaries.

  • PSUDTC405 CONTEMPORARY URDU LITERATURE 

After successfully completing this course students will be able to: 

  1. understand the contemporary urdu criticism. 
  2. understand the different movements and trends in urdu language and literature which have directly or indirectly effected  different genres of urdu. 
  3. To compare contemporary writers with Classical, Romanticism , Progressive , Modern  writers. 
  4. To compare the contemporary texts will different periods. 
  • PSUDTE406 APPLICATION OF COMPUTER IN URDU 

By the end of this course, the students will be able to. 

  1. Understanding the concept of input and output devices of Computers. 
  2. Learn the functional units and classify types of computers, how they process information and how individual computers interact with other computing systems and devices. 
  3. Understand an operating system and its working, and solve common problems related to operating systems 
  4.  Learn basic word processing, Spreadsheet and Presentation Graphics Software skills. 
  5. Study to use the Internet safely, legally, and responsibly. 
  6. Learn how to use inpage urdu software, different fonts, Unicode etc. 
  7. gain professional skills of Desk Top Publishing Tools like designing, Printing & Publishing by using various tools. 
  • PSUDTE407 STUDY OF MYSTICISM IN URDU 

After completing this course, students will be able: 

  1. To know basic concept of mysticism. 
  2. To know the characteristic of mysticism. 
  3. To know different elements in mysticism viz Islamic, Christianity, Budmut, Vedic . 
  4. To know impact of mysticism in Indian culture. 
  5. To know elements of mysticism in urdu poetry. 
  6.  To analyze some poetry pieces of some of the important poets viz Wali, Mir Taqi Mir, Mir Dard. Aatish . 
  • PSUDTO408 (Open Course)  Study of Urdu Poetry and Prose
