Introduction

Overview
To achieve the objectives of socio-economic development of New India, HEIs can play an important role through active community engagement. This approach will also contribute to improvements in quality of both teaching and research in HEIs in India. As a growing and large sector in the country, HEIs need to foster social responsibility and community in their vision and mission itself. It is also important that institutional mechanisms are developed to adopt a holistic and functional approach to community engagement, encompassing all the three functions of HEIs-teaching, research and service. Social responsibility describes the way we are making a difference to the social and economic well-being of our communities through our teaching, and other activities.University of Jammu is striving hard to make a positive difference to the life and future of our region by taking socially responsible decisionsthat have real, beneficial, measurable impacts on the people and the world around us.
Objectives:
➢ We make a significant contribution to our communities and society as a whole through our research, our education and a wide range of activities undertaken by our staff, students, alumni and other Government and non-government institutes.
➢ The community service and social justice club of “Uttsah” club cluster of university of Jammu aims to address the social, economical,cultural and ecological issues of the society for the well being of the people.
➢ The community service and social justice club was constituted with the objectives of reaching out to the larger society and bringing about a positive change in the lives of the people.
➢ As an educational institution, a major component of our outreach activities is education along with raising awareness. Our outreach activities are directed to bridge the gap in services provided by official/governmental sources and non-profit organizations.
➢ The club has about more than 250 volunteers who will assist and work for the Society with enthusiasm.The involvement of students in these activities can help them in gaining experience in technology, teamwork, leadership, organization and so on.
➢ The community service and social justice club of the campus aims to project the image “University beyond the campus” by focusing on the following activities:

• Visits to old age homes
• Helping Bal Grams
• Approaching people of geographically tough terrains
• Identifying and working for educationally backward zone under NEP2020
• Restoring the rich cultural heritage of region
• Community Engagement.
