The Department of Students Welfare in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society organised a Short Play Competition through its Red Ribbon Club for awareness about HIV and AIDS at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu. The purpose of the competition was to create awareness about this issue as there is an urgent need to improve and increase Comprehensive Knowledge of HIV/AIDS through various activities especially amongst young people.
Participants presented thought provoking performances on the topics, ‘Routes of HIV transmission’, ‘Myths & Misconceptions related to HIV’, ‘Promotion of Helpline 1097’, ‘Information on Stigma & Discrimination/ HIV Act’.
Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Prakash Antahal complemented Dr. Samir Mattoo, Project Director, J&K AIDS Control Society for the successful completion of this impactful idea to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS amongst the youth. The effectiveness of the same can be apparently seen through the zestful participation of around 200 students from different Colleges/Campuses and Teaching Departments of University of Jammu.
In her address, Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee, apprised the participants about the importance of this event which aims at spreading knowledge about prevention of AIDS, she advised them to be equipped with the relevant information and also to act like torch-bearers to spread it further for the benefit of humanity.
The First Position alongwith a Cash prize of Rs. 15,000 was clinched by the team of PG Integrated students, The Second Position and Cash Prize of Rs. 10,000 was secured by the team of GCW, Parade. The team of DD& OE secured Third Position and Cash prize of Rs. 5,000. The Certificates of Merit were awarded to the teams of Stephens Nursing College, UIET Kathua and Dogra College of Education. Sh. Janak Khajuria, Sh. Suresh Sharma and Sh. Neeraj Kant were the adjudicators of the event.
The winners were felicitated in presence of Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector Kathua Campus, Prof. Prakash Antahal, Prof, Monika Chadha, Sh. Risheesh Khajuria, Assistant Director(IEC) JKACS, and Dr. Hema Gandotra, Coordinator Red Ribbon Club, University of Jammu.
The events of DSW are conceived, planned and organised by the team consisting of Prof. Prakash Antahal (Dean Students Welfare), Prof. Monika Chadha (Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Prof. Sarika Manhas (Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Dr. Pritam Singh (Associate Dean SW), Dr. Garima Gupta (Assistant Dean, SW), Dr. Shallu Sharma & Dr. A.R. Manhas (Deputy Proctors), members of Campus Cultural Committee, Ms Mansi Mantoo (Media Officer), Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor) and Ifra Kak (Cultural Officer) and members of Campus Cultural Committee.
The hall management was looked after by Kulbhushan Thakur, Balwant Slathia, RP Singh, Arif Paul, Sachin Sharma and Cultural Representatives Kanya Sharma, Suriya Banoo, Bipasha Raina, Rishika Sharma, Angraaz Singh, Rajdeep Singh and Sunny Singh.
