National Unity Day-Rastriya Ekta Diwas-2023

National Service Scheme (NSS) Campus Unit -II, University of Jammu, Jammu ,organized  two days programme on “National Unity Day – Rastriya Ekta Diwas” from October 30th to 31st ,2023 as part of the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign, which aimed to honour the courageous freedom warriors who gave their lives in defense of our freedom and to propagate the message of National Unity and the spirit of Rashtriya Ekta.To  celebrate the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas- the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbai Patel-India’s First Home Minister and Freedom Fighter, referred to as the Iron Man of India for bringing together thousands of Princely states to form the National Union that we call India, the National Service Scheme(NSS) Campus Unit-II, University of Jammu, organized series of events .On 30thOct 2023 Cleanliness Drive was started  in Amrit Vatika , backyard of Dhanvantri Library  followed by Slogan Writing  and Poster Making on the theme “Unity is Strength”. On 31stOct 2023, the function began with the presentation of a floral tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and lighting of lamp ceremony. This was followed by Pledge Taking Ceremony by all present on the occasion. The Pledge emphasized to dedicate oneself to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation and also to strive hard to spread this message among the fellow countrymen.

The event was conducted under the mentorship of Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor & Chairman NSS, University of Jammu,Jammu who lauded the efforts of all the volunteers for the successful conduct of the event and said that such Unity is a powerful force that binds people together and allows them to work together for a common purpose. It is the foundation of any successful team, organization, or society, and it is essential for achieving success and progress. He gave one message to the young generation on National Unity Day “Ek Rashtriya-We All Are One Irrespective of Religion, Cast, Colour and Creed” He further stressed on importance of such events to generate awareness among the students community and staff to promote the National Unity and integrity to strengthen the fabric of the country as one nation. The event was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Savita Nayyar, Convener, NSS Campus Units, University of Jammu, Jammu, who at the very outset welcomed all the gathering. Dr. Savita Nayyar said that such events help in the harmonious growth of the society and universal brotherhood. In her address she said that Unity is essential in creating a strong, vibrant, and productive society. Unity brings all students together; allowing them to work in harmony. It encourages an environment of acceptance, support, and understanding. When people are united, they are more likely to work together to find solutions to problems.

The NSS Volunteers also holded the posters depicting unity and banners in their hands on which slogans were written by them. Some of the slogans were, “I Can Do Something Which You Cannot, You Can Do Something Which I Cannot, By Uniting We Can Do Everything”, “All For One, One For All, We Are Saviors of the Nation Should Never Be Apart”, “Let’s Not Be Religious, Not Be Communal, Be A Human Who Can Show Some Humanity”, From North to South and From East to West, As Long As We Stay Together, We Stay Blessed”. “Togetherness Leads to Harmony, Harmony Leads To Peace” and “Many People Many Hearts, Many Minds But One Thought...UNITY”.

Prominent among those who were present in the Programme were Dr.Hema Gandotra, NSS Programme Coordinator, University of Jammu, Dr.Vikram Sahi Incharge Librarian ,Dhanvantri Library, Dr.Shallu Sehgal, Dr.Mandeep Natyal, Dr.Monika Bhardwaj, Dr.Rajbeer Singh - NSS Programme Officers, University of Jammu, and Dr.Ashwin Kumar Kushwaha ,Faculty Member . The event was over all coordinated by Dr. Meghna Dhar, NSS Programme Officer, NSS Campus Unit-II, University of Jammu, Jammu. She said that the event was organized in order to spread the message of Unity, Integrity and Security of our country. More than 50 NSS Volunteers of Campus Units, Students and Research Scholars. All the participants participated in the event with zeal and enthusiasm.
