To Encourage and improve the professional skills of the Library professionals various workshops and Orientation Programmes are conducted by the Dhanvantri Library from time to time. To educate,create awareness for active usage among the students, Dhanvantri Library is conducting special orientation programmes for the new registered students of all the departments of Jammu University in the beginning of each academic year. In addition various other activities and events are organised. Dhanvantri Library accord farewells to their staff at the time of superannuation. Also, Library Professional actively participate in various other activities organised by the university of Jammu.

12/11/2024: APS Domana Visited Dhanvantri Library
Army Public School Domana visited Dhanvantri library today on 13.11.24. Accompanied by their school’s TGT library Mrs Nirmal Sahwney, 28 students of 8th standard came here for exploring library services being provided to the users. This visit is coordinated by Mrs Azmit Begum Assistant librarian, who took these students to different sections of library and reading halls. Students were briefed about the functioning’s of the library and also make aware about the different facilities being provided to the users of the library. Students visited different areas of th Dhanvantri library with great enthusiasm and learn different new ideas and knowledge.
12/11/2024: HSS Barakh, Reasi visited Dhanvantri Library
Students from government higher secondary school Barakh, Reasi visited Dhanvantri library on 12.11.2024. These students were accompanied by principal of school Mr Girdhari Lal Sharma and 10 other staff members. These students were taken to different sections of the library and briefed about the work and culture of the library. These students learn many different things including how to trace books by author titles or subject, how to use different online resources of the library, they also learned how to books and other reading materials are arranged for the convenience of users etc. this visit is conducted by Mrs Azmit Begum (Assistant librarian). Library visits help students feel more comfortable using library resources and encourage lifelong skills. It’s an opportunity to explore new ideas and strengthen their curiosity.
25/10/2024: Dhanvantri library University of Jammu organised book fair in collaboration with National Geographic organisation.
The book fair was inagurated by Prof Rajeev Rattan, Director College Development Council, University of Jammu. Prof Ratan applauded the efforts of the Library in organsing this book fair.
Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, I/C Librarian, explained in detail the objective of organising book fairs and assured that such book fairs will become a regular feature in order to bring students closer to the books. He also appreciated the efforts of Mrs Nimmi Suri I/C Acquisition Section and her team for organising the book fair.
Later in the day, Dr Jatinder Khajuria, Finance Officer of the University also visited the book stalls and appreciated the efforts of the library staff in organsing this book fair. Senior functionaries of the Jammu University Library system Sh. Rakesh Kumar, Deputy Librarian, Dr Anita Sachar, Mrs. Nimmi Suri, Mrs. Azmit Begum, Sh. Jasjeet Singh, Mrs. Neelam Bhagat, Mrs. Babita Jamwal, Mrs. Veenu and Ms. Diksha, Ms. Deepika, Ms Riya, Mr Karan, Mr Prince, Mr Meghavat, Mr Raj young library professionals of the library also actively participated in the book fair. In addition to this teachers and library professionals also visited the book fair. A large number of students also visited the stalls and showed keen intrest in the books displayed in the book fair.
19/10/2024: Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu, successfully concluded a one-month long internship program for Master of Library and Information Science (MLIB) students from the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu.
The comprehensive program provided hands-on experience in:
- Acquisition Module
- Circulation Module
- Periodical Module
- Database Creation
- Weeding Process
Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, I/C Librarian, distributed certificates to the participants and expressed satisfaction with the program's outcome. He applauded the library staff for imparting valuable knowledge on delivering user services in the digital era.

16/10/2024: Visit of JNV Reasi in Dhanvantri Library
Today students of JNV Reasi visited Dhanvantri library. Students were accompanied by teachers and other supporting staff of JNV. This visit is conducted under the supervision of Azmit Begum, Assistant librarian (incharge periodical section). Students were taken to different sections and briefed about the overall functioning of Dhanvantri library.
14/09/2024: Dhanvantri Library, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Translation Club Celebrate Hindi Diwas in Collaboration with IGNCA, Jammu.
The Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Dhanvantri Library, and Translation Club, University of Jammu, under the auspices of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) Jammu, celebrated Hindi Diwas today with literary discussions and symposium.
The celebration featured a panel discussion that brought together eminent scholars and faculty members, including Prof. Sham Narayan Lal from the History Department, Prof. Dushyant Kumar Rai from the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Dr. Shruti Awasti, Regional Director of IGNCA, and Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, Incharge Librarian at the University of Jammu.
The panelists engaged in an in-depth discussions on the literary contributions of renowned Hindi authors such as Munshi Premchand, Bhartendu Harishchandra, Jaishankar Prasad, Mahadevi Verma, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, and HSV Agyeya, etc.
Earlier in the day, a symposium was held for students from the Department of Journalism and Media Studies and the Department of English. Fourteen students participated and shared their insights on the works of iconic Hindi writers, including Premchand, Suryakant Tripathi Nirala, Bhawani Prasad Mishra, and Harivansh Rai Bachchan, etc.
Aryan, a first-semester student from the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, was awarded first prize for his presentation. Suhani Gupta and Sakshi Shawney secured second and third places, respectively. The event was smoothly managed by Swati, while Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi extended a formal vote of thanks to the attendees.
Others present on the occasion included, Dr Anita Sachar, Dr Kusum Sharma, Dr Neelam , Dr Ashwin Kumar Kushwaha, Dr Pardeep Singh Bali, Dr Rakesh Kumar, Ms Kumerjit Chajgotra, Ms Deepika, Ms Diksha, Ms Garima Singh. Research Scholars from the department of Journalism and Library and Information Science also participated in the program.

03/09/2024: Certificate distribution ceremony of the training course held for Library Professionals of Jammu University
Library System on execution and technical knowledge of the various in-house Library operations of Updated version of Libsys10 Library Management Software, under the august supervision of I/C Librarian, Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi. The Ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. Rahul Gupta, Registrar, University of Jammu, who distributed certificates to the participants. The I/C Librarian in his comprehensive speech, highlighted the significance of the training program. He added that the LibSys-10 Modules Training Program, is a comprehensive initiative aimed at empowering participants with advanced knowledge of the LibSys Software, covered various aspects of Library Management, including cataloging, circulation, acquisition and the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). The Worthy Registrar of the University of Jammu addressed the gathering, acknowledged the efforts of the I/C Librarian and the Library Staff and emphasized the importance of continuous learning and professional development.
During, the event 46 participants, including 10 Officers and 36 Library Professionals, were awarded certificates by the Chief Guest. Following the Ceremony, a Group Photograph was taken, capturing the momentous occasion.

12/08/2024: Dhanvantri Library Celebrates Librarian Day with Great Fervor
Today, in a momentous occasion, Dhanvantri Library observed Librarian Day with a grand event that brought together library professionals, students and faculty members. The occasion was marked by insightful talks, discussions and celebrations.
Mr. Ashwin K. Kushwaha, a renowned expert in the field from the Department of Library & Information Sciences, was the resource person for the event. He shared his valuable experiences and knowledge with the audience, shedding light on the importance of librarians in the digital age.
Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, I/C Librarian, delivered a keynote address on the Laws of Ranganathan, emphasizing the significance of these principles in modern librarianship. His talk was well-received by the audience and sparked interesting discussions. Ms. Babita Jamwal skillfully conducted the proceedings, ensuring a smooth and engaging program. The event was organized by Shri Rakesh Kumar, Convenor of the Academic Activities Committee, who worked tirelessly to make the celebration a success.
The event served as a tribute to the dedication and hard work of librarians, who play a vital role in preserving knowledge and promoting learning. It was a wonderful opportunity for library professionals to come together, share ideas and celebrate their contributions to the academic community.
13/03/2024: Awareness session on e-resources conducted by Dhanvantri Library
Under the stewardship of Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai ji, Dhanvantri Library University of Jammu started a series of awareness sessions with the aim to make all the students, research scholars and faculty members of different departments of Jammu University aware about the e-resources available through Dhanvantri Library. First Session of this series was conducted in PG
Department of Chemistry on 12/03/2024. Ms Azmat Begum, Senior Assistant Librarian and I/C of the Periodical Section along with Ms Diksha Sharma through power point presentation on e-resources gave in-depth information about the electronic resources especially e-journals and e-books that can be accessed under the umbrella of e-ShodhSindhu.
Prof. Haq Nawaz Sheikh, Head Dept of Chemistry, faculty members, Ms Meenu Nanda, Departmental Librarian, Scholars and Students of the department participated in the program.

30/01/2024: JNV Reasi visited Dhanvantri Library
Students from Jawahar Navodaya vidhyala (JNV) visited Dhanvantri Library on 30/01/2024. This visit is coordinated by Ms Azmit Begum(Assistant Librarian, who introduces the visiting students to different sections of the library and also briefed about the services provided by the library. Students of JNV were accompanied by four teachers as well as. All the students were very exited after seeing this hub of knowledge.

17/11/2023: MIER college visit in Dhanvantri Library
Students of MIER college visited Dhanvantri library today on 17.11.2023 at 11am. B.Ed and BA Honour Students of MIER college visited different sections of Dhanvantri library and interacted with concerned officials of DL. They were accompanied by Suneel Bhat and Eisha Sharma.
This visit is conducted by Azmit Begum and Veenu Gundotra under the guidance of I/C Librarian Dr Vikram Singh sahi.
31/10/2023: A warm Farewell given to Sh. Ganesh Ji, who rendered more than 38 years of his services to Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu. The program was organised under the guidance of I/C Librarian, Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi and the Staff Welfare Committee, led by Madam Nimmi Suri and her team, including Mrs. Anjana Wazir, Mrs. Neelam Kangotra, Mrs. Babita Jamwal, and Mrs. Sonika Sharma.
12/10/2023: Dhanvantri Library under the Leadership of Incharge Librarian, Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi organised an awareness session on e-Books on 12-10-2023. Mr. Indresh Kumar Account Manager, Springer Nature, was the Resource Person. He gave a detailed presentation regarding e-Books, their need, comparison with printed books, advantages, need to integrate into the Library Catalogue, Usage, their daily increasing demand, market price, sole proprietorship, etc. Library officials attended and interacted the awareness session.
10/10/2023: Directorate of Distance & Online Learning, University of Jammu Organised "Pustak Gyaan Pardharshanee" an Extensive Book Exhibition to promote and reinforce the habit of book reading among the students and academic community. The Exhibition Showcased the books of reputed national Publishers.
The Exhibition was Jointly Inaugurated by Prof. Rahul Gupta, Registrar JU; Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director DD&OE; and Dr. Vikram Sahi, Incharge Librarian, Dhanvantri Library, JU.
19/09/2023- Today the Students of Design Your Degree (DYD) Programme visited the Dhanvantri Library. During their visit in the Library they took a round of the Library and visited each and every Section of the Library. The Incharge Librarian Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi briefed them about the Working and Functions of the Library and also about the role of the Dhanvantri Library in DYD Programme.
