MSc. Biotechnology Programme Specific Outcome

Upon completion of the M.Sc Biotechnology programme, the students should be able to:
PSO1: Demonstrate and apply their knowledge of Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Biology to solve the problems related to the field of Biotechnology.
PSO2: Understand various facets of molecular procedures and basics of genomics, proteomics and metabolomics that could be employed in early diagnosis and prognosis of human diseases.
PSO3: Gain hands on experience in gene cloning, protein expression and purification and knowledge gain can be applied to obtain industrially important products like enzymes, hormones, antibiotics etc.
PSO4: Describe fundamental molecular principles of genetics, relationship between phenotype and genotype, basics of genetic mapping, regulation of gene expression etc.
PSO5:  Demonstrate and apply the principles of Bioprocess Engineering in the design, analysis, optimization and simulation of bioprocess operations.
PSO6: Gain fundamental knowledge in Animal and Plant Biotechnology and their various applications.
PSO7: Identify research problems, design experiments, use appropriate methodologies, analyse and interpret data and exhibit organizational skills to manage time and resources.
PSO8:  Understanding importance of IPRs in different areas of Biotechnology leading to development of entrepreneur skills in them.
PSO9: Understand the potential and impact of biotechnological advancements on the environment and hence can contribute on spreading awareness and finding sustainable solutions.
PSO10: Adopt code of ethics in professional and social context and demonstrate exemplary professional, ethical and legal behaviours in decision making.

 

MSc. Biochemistry Programme Specific Outcome

Upon completion of the M. Sc Biochemistry programme, the candidate should be able to:
PSO1: Understand the fundamental concepts and basis of chemical reactions that occur in biological systems and able figure out the different viewpoints of applied sciences those serve humanity.
PSO2: Apply their biochemistry knowledge to deal with environmental, intellectual, societal, and ethical challenges.
PSO3: Analyse clinical data that will aid in diagnosis of diseases.
PSO4: Acquire proficiency in correlating the concepts of metabolic pathway regulation and gene expression regulation with patho-physiology of the disease.
PSO5: Carry out biochemical research using conventional and modern techniques of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, record and interpret the results, draw conclusion.
PSO6: Communicate biochemical and molecular concepts through presentations (both oral and poster) and scientific publications.
PSO7: Generic skills acquired during the programme in the areas of Clinical Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Enzymology, will provide many employment options ranging from wage employment to self-employment and entrepreneurship.

 

MSc. Microbiology Programme Specific Outcome

Upon completion of the M. Sc Microbiology programme, the candidate should be able to:
PSO1: Isolation, identification and functional characterization of various microbes, both pathogenic and beneficial microbes including bacteria, fungi, algae, protists and viruses
PSO2: Industrial application of microorganism in production of bread, cheese, yogurt, alcohol, wine, beer, antibiotics (e.g. penicillin, streptomycin, chloromycetin), vaccines, vitamins, enzymes, steroids, and amino acids etc. and many more important products.
PSO3: Application of microbes in many fields like medicine, pharmacy, clinical research and identification of plans and measures to cure human, plant and animal diseases caused by these microbes
PSO4: Genetically engineered organism to make hormones, vaccine, antibiotics and many other useful products for human being.
PSO5: Influence of microbes on agriculture; the prevention of the diseases that mainly damage the useful crops.
PSO6: Food science involving the prevention of food spoilage and food borne diseases and also the uses of microbes to produce cheese, yoghurt, pickles and beer.
PSO7:Identifying the research problems, experimental design, use appropriate methodologies, analyze and interpret data and scientific manuscript writing and literature presentation via journal clubs.
PSO8: Practice safe microbiology, using appropriate protective, biosafety and emergency procedures.
Overall, the programme is reasoning and applications oriented, equipping the students eligible for higher studies, jobs in various sectors and entrepreneurship abilities.
