JU concludes One Week FDP on “SPSS UNPLUGGED: AI Perspective in Data Analytics”

Jammu, December 13: The Directorate of College Development Council, in collaboration with the Department of Statistics, University of Jammu, successfully concluded One Week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “SPSS UNPLUGGED: AI Perspective in Data Analytics” under the aegis of RUSA 2.0.

The valedictory function was graced by Prof. J. P. Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs, as the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof. Joorel urged the participants to disseminate the knowledge they had acquired further to their students and colleagues, thereby multiplying the impact of the FDP. He emphasized that such initiatives strengthen the academic ecosystem and prepare faculty to meet the challenges posed by emerging technologies in data science.

Dr. Dharminder Magotra, Director CDC and Co-Convener, highlighted the University’s vision to enhance capacity-building initiatives across affiliated colleges. He shared that with RUSA 2.0 support; College Development Council has initiated series of Capacity Building Programmes for various stakeholders of the University. Prof. Pawan Kumar, Convener, presented an overview of the week-long sessions and expressed satisfaction over the active engagement of attendees. Dr. V. K. Shivgotra, Course Coordinator, shared the methodological framework and curriculum design adopted for the workshop, reiterating the need for continual training to keep pace with technological advancements.

The programme was enriched by the presence of distinguished resource persons, including Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma of Panjab University, Chandigarh; Dr. Sushil Sarkar of IASRI, Delhi; Dr. Gulab Singh Boora from the University of Delhi; and Dr. Sumit Maheshwari of IIM Jammu, who delivered expert lectures in their respective domains. Their insightful and interactive sessions acquainted participants with best practices in data analytics and SPSS, effectively integrating academic rigor with real-world applications. Prof. Ravinder Tickoo, Nodal Principal, Jammu Division, was also thanked for his support in nominating faculty members for the FDP.

Faculty members from various Government-affiliated colleges also expressed appreciation for the workshop, noting that it enhanced their understanding of AI-enabled data analytics using SPSS and provided valuable skills to be shared with students and colleagues. Dr. Jasbir Singh, Dr. Arif, Dr. Sukhwinder, and Dr. Rakesh Verma shared their feedback during the valedictory session, appreciating the efforts of the organizers in conducting the FDP in a well-structured and excellent manner.

The valedictory function concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. V. K. Shivgotra, Organizing Secretary.

As many as 70 faculty members from colleges affiliated with the University of Jammu participated in the FDP, which focused on Data Analytics and AI using SPSS. The programme covered key areas such as survey design, regression, ANOVA, factor analysis, PCA, and structural equation modelling with AMOS, combining conceptual lectures with hands-on training for effective practical learning.
