JU organise inter-collegiate poetry recitation competition

An Inter-Collegiate Poetry Recitation Competition was organized by the department of Punjabi, University of Jammu on November 11, 2024, commemorating the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students across various colleges, namely - SPMR College of Commerce, G.D.C R.S Pura, G.D.C.W Kathua, G.D.C Hiranagar, G.D.C Bishnah, M.A.M College, G.D.C Bhagwati Nagar, G.D.C Sidhra, G.D.C Gandhi nagar as well as Distance education and Punjabi department of university of Jammu. The competition aimed to encourage students to express their thoughts and creativity through poetry, reflecting on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, which emphasize equality, unity, compassion, and devotion to humanity. Participants showcased their talent by reciting poems in Punjabi drawing inspiration from Guru Nanak’s profound messages of love, peace, and harmony. Prof. Baljeet Kour welcomed the eminent Personalities and inaugurated the event with an insightful speech highlighting the importance of the event. Prof. Baljeet Kour emphasized the importance of promoting values of tolerance, understanding, and respect, 4554441especially through creative mediums like poetry.The competition was graced by the esteemed presence of Padma Shri Mohan Singh, a renowned Dogri writer, who was the Chief Guest for the occasion. In his inaugural address, Padma Shri Mohan Singh emphasised the importance of preserving cultural heritage and expressed his admiration for the students' creative expressions. The event was judged by a panel of distinguished poets and academicians, including S. Ajeet Singh Mastana and Vikram Sahai. Both the judges expressed their appreciation for the successful organization of the inter-collegiate poetry recitation competition. They also commended the participants for their enthusiasm, talent, and the effort they put into delivering their performances. Their recognition highlighted the importance of such events in promoting creativity and cultural exchange among students.The top performers were awarded certificates and prizes in recognition of their literary skills and deep understanding of poetic vision. Certificates of merit and appreciation were also given to the participants. Dr. Pritam Singh expressed his gratitude to all participants, faculty members, and organizing committee for making the event a success and also extended his thanks to the audience for their active involvement and encouragement, making this occasion memorable. He thanked all the reverent writers, academicians and participants for their active participation in this event. Dr. Pritam Singh briefly mentioned that the poetry competition was not just a celebration of literary talent but also an opportunity for students to connect with the spiritual and cultural heritage. The event concluded with collective prayer, invoking the blessings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji for peace and prosperity in the world.
