JU's UDHAMPUR CAMPUS ORGANISES PADYATRA UNDER NASHA MUKT BHARAT ABHIYAN

Udhampur, May 05: The Udhampur Campus (Garnai–Lotta), University of Jammu, organised a padyatra under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at eradicating substance abuse and creating awareness about the ill effects of drugs, particularly among the youth.
The event was organised to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle among youth and the community.
The padyatra, which passed through village routes and nearby schools, witnessed enthusiastic participation from rural residents, faculty members, staff, and students of the campus, along with students from Government High School, Ladhyala, Garnai Lotta. Carrying banners and raising slogans such as "Say No to Drugs & Yes to Life," the participants actively engaged with the local community across the Garnai area, encouraging collective responsibility in combating substance abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector, Udhampur Campus, appreciated the active involvement of students and local participants. He emphasized that a drug-free society and a healthy youth population are essential pillars for realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Highlighting India's demographic strength, he noted that over 65% of the country's population is below the age of 35, making youth the driving force of national development. He further stated that physically fit, mentally strong, and socially responsible youth are the need of the nation. However, substance abuse poses a serious threat to this demographic dividend. Therefore, such awareness initiatives are vital steps towards achieving the vision of a drug-free India. He also highlighted the importance of continuous efforts through education, awareness, and community participation to eliminate the menace of drug abuse.
As part of the initiative, a Pledge Against Drug Abuse was administered, wherein all participants collectively resolved to stay away from drugs and to promote a healthy lifestyle.
To further reinforce the message, a signature campaign was organised by students and faculty members of the campus. Participants actively signed in support of the campaign, expressing their commitment to building a drug-free society and motivating others to join the movement.
