The Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu was alive with patriotic fervour today as it celebrated the 78th Independence Day with a series of inspiring events and speeches. The celebrations began with the flag hoisting ceremony followed by a soulful rendition of the national anthem in the campus premises in the presence of students, staff, the Chief Guest, Shri Romesh Sharma, Treasurer Volleyball Association, J&K and Volleyball Coach (Retd) and the rector of Udhampur Campus, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest, Sh. Romesh Sharma, expressed his happiness to be there and noted that events like this serve as a reminder to renew our commitment to serving the country. The young people of today are making progress in a number of areas and are at a crossroads. According to Mr. Sharma, youth must engage in sports activities for nation-building in addition to academics in order to preserve the principles of freedom and for their overall growth. He went on to say, "Sports and spirituality can be of great help to combat the challenges of drug addiction, anxiety, and depression." He extended all his support in furthering the sports activities on the campus.
Addressing the students, staff and, the members of the civil society, Prof Yash Pal Sharma expressed his gratitude and congratulated the students who actively participated in the cultural program and literary views related to Independence day. He emphasized how freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad, B.R Ambedkar and others played pivotal roles in India's struggle for independence. He highlighted the crucial role of youth in shaping the future of the nation, emphasizing their energy, creativity, and potential for driving progress. He also celebrated India's "Unity in Diversity" noting that the country's strength lies in its ability to bring together people from various cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Further, he underscored the importance of stability in the political, economic, and social spheres, as it is essential for effective governance, sustained growth, and harmonious living. He exhorted the youth to take pledge to contribute in best possible way to realize the vision 2047 of “Viksit Bharat” or Developed India and reflects the Government of India’s commitment to transform India. Prof. Sharma took a moment to praise the students for their outstanding performances during the celebrations. He commended their enthusiasm and creativity, which added a special vibrancy to the event. Prof. Sharma encouraged greater student participation in future activities, underscoring that such involvement not only enhances personal growth but also strengthens the spirit of community and national pride. He extended his gratitude to the people of Garnai Lotta and also encouraged them to increase their participation in events organized by Udhampur Campus. By doing so, he hoped to foster greater community engagement and collaboration, which would enhance the overall development and integration of village Garnai-Lotta with broader societal advancements.
Mr. Azhar from the University of Jammu then took the stage to discuss the advantages of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0. He informed that the new Skill Hub training program at the Udhampur campus aims at enhancing employability and fostering growth among the people of Udhampur.
Proceedings of the event were conducted by Ms. Riya Mahajan and the welcome address was made by Dr Jyotishna. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Nikhil Khajuria, who extended gratitude to all those involved in making the event a grand success.

Kishtwar campus celebrates 78th Independence Day
The students and staff of Kishtwar Campus, University of Jammu, Jammu celebrated the 78th Independence Day by hoisting the national flag. Prof. Jasbir Singh, Director, Kishtwar Campus hoisted the National Flag and addressed the gathering. In his address, he conveyed the message of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, who greeted the students, faculty, and non-teaching staff of the Kishtwar Campus. In his message, Prof. Rai expressed that the University of Jammu has achieved academic accolades by achieving a rank within the 50th NIRF ranking which is a collective effort of all stakeholders, including constituent Campuses of the University of Jammu. Further, in his message, he stressed starting skill-based courses with employment potential taking into account the local potential and resources.
Prof. Jasbir Singh in his address appealed to the students to work hard in their studies so that they can make a mark at the national level. We have to work hard to be a center of academic excellence in the region, he said. Teachers should take up the responsibility as mentors encouraging students to go for start-ups, benefitting all in the region, he added. Later on, all students, faculty, and non-teaching staff watched the address of the Prime Minister Sh. Narinder Modi to the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort. All took a keen interest and pledged to follow the path of nation-building and be ready to face all challenges unitedly.

Kathua Campus Celebrated 78th Independence Day with Flag Hoisting, Tributes to Jawans and Tree Plantation
On 15th August, 2024, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu marked the 78th Independence Day with a series of commemorative events that underscored the significance of patriotism and environmental stewardship.
The celebration commenced with a heartfelt tribute to the Veer Jawans who laid down their lives for the country’s independence and sovereignty. Members of the Campus community gathered to offer flowers and express their deep appreciation for the soldiers. The tribute highlighted the enduring respect and gratitude for the sacrifices made by these brave individuals.
The central event of the day was the flag hoisting ceremony, which took place in the Lawns of Academic Block of Kathua Campus. Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus led the ceremony by hoisting the national flag which symbolizes the unity and sovereignty of the country. The flag hoisting ceremony was conducted by the Lieutenant Amit Sharma, Assistant Professor, Kathua Campus, along with the NCC cadets, followed by a powerful rendition of the national anthem by the university choir symbolizing the harmony and pride of the nation.
As part of the 78th Independence Day celebrations, a special sapling plantation drive titled “Ek Paed Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree for the Motherland) was organized, featuring the planting of saplings to honor the occasion. This initiative was designed to honor the spirit of patriotism by contributing to environmental conservation. Steered by Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, students, faculty members, and staff participated enthusiastically, planting saplings across the campus.
Kathua Campus continues to honor its mission of celebrating national heritage while actively engaging in community and environmental efforts. The programme was attended by Dr. Vivek Sharma, Academic Coordinator, Dr. Pankaj Khajuria, Assistant Registrar, Faculty members, staff and students of UIET and Kathua Campus.
