The Girls' Hostels at the University of Jammu celebrated Independence Week with great enthusiasm, culminating in a vibrant and spirited Tiranga Yatra on the 78th year of Independence. The event was aimed to foster a deep sense of patriotism among the boarders, staff, and university officials, providing a platform for everyone to come together and celebrate India's 78th Independence Day with the pledge for a Viksit Bharat.
The highlight of the celebrations was a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in which hundreds of boarders from Girls Hostels participated which was followed by a Pledge for a Viksit Bharat and many activities were organized where boarders and staff of Girls’ Hostels showcased their patriotic fervor through performances of patriotic songs, street plays (Nukkad Nataks), folk songs, spirited slogans and activities. The rally witnessed active participation of the Provost of Girls' Hostels, wardens, resident wardens, and the entire hostel staff, creating an atmosphere charged with national pride.
In her motivational address, Prof. Shashi Manhas, Provost of Girls' Hostels, reflected on India's remarkable journey since gaining independence, emphasizing how the world now looks to India as a source of inspiration and opportunity. She encouraged the girl boarders to actively participate in the nation's growth, urging them to shape their destinies while staying rooted in their rich cultural traditions and said that Nation’s progress is intertwined with that the progress of females, which is being encouraged by the government in making the nation a truly ‘Viksit Bharat’. Prof. Manhas also expressed her sincere appreciation to the Vice Chancellor and University authorities, wardens, r/wardens, office assistants and staffs for their continued support and praised the enthusiastic participation of the girl boarders in making the event a resounding success.
All participants took a pledge of “Hamara Sankalp Viksit Bharat” with Dr Chinmoyee Maharana in presence of wardens and resident wardens including Dr. Meenakshi, Dr. Skarma, Dr. Sushma and others. The day was marked with series of presentations and talent displays focused on the theme of Independence that added depth and vibrancy to the celebration. These activities included poem and prose writing, painting, cultural dances, and speeches on the theme of freedom and visions for a Viksit Bharat, all of which resonated with the patriotic spirit that filled the Girls' Hostel premises.
An interactive session was held as part of the celebrations, featuring contributions from key hostel figures, including Provost of Girls' Hostels; all the Wardens, Resident Wardens, Office Assistants and staff of all the four girls’ hostels. The celebration was thrilling for all participants and was very well-received, with engaging discussions, beautiful performances and activities by boarders of all the Girls’ Hostels leaving lasting memories to cherish always.
The Independence Week celebration by the Girls’ Hostels at the University of Jammu were a testament to the collective spirit of community-building, as the entire hostel premises and the rally in the campus brought together all the boarders belonging to various parts of Jammu and Kashmir and various states of India to decorate the premises with the tricolor, symbolizing unity and the enduring significance of India's independence.
