Padam Shri S. P Verma, President, Gandhi Global Family (GGF) J&K today called on Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and highlighted the need to collaborate for supporting youth belonging to underprivileged segments of the society.
Sh. Verma provided an overview of the initiatives undertaken by GGF to uplift underprivileged communities. He also highlighted pressing issues affecting the socio-economic conditions of underprivileged population, especially the youth, in rural, urban, and far-flung regions of the Jammu & Kashmir.
Prof. Rai and Sh. Verma discussed the possibilities of adoption of villages along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Borders for benefitting the students through various such initiatives and dedicated programs. The concept of "Lab to Land and Land to Lab" was also discussed , emphasizing the significance of applying academic research and innovations for community development, while using real-world challenges as a basis for academic research and addressing societal challenges.
Sh. Verma also apprised the Vice Chancellor about the internship programs that are intended to attract many NRI students interested to visit Indian Universities, including the University of Jammu. This initiative aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and enrich the academic environment through global interactions. He underscored the importance of collaboration between technocrats, skilled professionals, and the faculty to encourage practical learning experiences and promote the application of advanced technologies and skills in both academic and community settings.
The Vice Chancellor wished all the success to Gandhi Global Family in its endeavour for general good of the underprivileged segments of the society and gave an overview of the efforts being made by the University to promote academic excellence among the students of all segments of society. He said the University of Jammu believes in innovation and has always been open to the suggestions and cooperation to boost its academic and research pursuits.
