JU Organizes Symposium on Trends in Dogri Free Verse Poetry

The Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Department of Dogri, University of Jammu, hosted a daylong symposium on "Trends in Dogri Free Verse Poetry" at the Gian Chand Memorial Hall, University of Jammu.

The symposium was presided over by eminent writer and Sahitya Akademi awardee Darshan Darshi, with Prof Sucheta Pathania, Head of the Department of Dogri, as the Chief Guest. Prakash Premi, a distinguished Dogri writer and scholar, delivered the keynote address. Mohan Singh, convener of the Dogri Advisory Board at Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, and a Padmshree Awardee, presented the welcome address and introductory remarks.

In addition to the inaugural session, there were two sessions featuring four papers presented by eminent Dogri scholars.

The first session was chaired by eminent writer Inderjeet Kesar. Puran Chander Sharma presented the first paper on trends in Dogri free verse poetry from 1980 to 1990, followed by Shivdev Sushil's presentation on trends from 1990 to 2000.

The second session was chaired by Dhian Singh, an eminent writer and scholar. Ashok Khajuria presented the third paper on trends from 2000 to 2010, and Khajur Singh Thakur concluded with a paper on trends from 2010 to 2020.

All scholars discussed the evolving trends in Dogri free verse poetry in detail, and their papers were highly appreciated by the audience. The symposium highlighted the rising prominence of Dogri free verse poetry on both national and international stages.

Prof. Sushma Sharma from the Dogri Department of Jammu University presented a formal vote of thanks. The symposium was a resounding success, attracting a large number of writers, scholars, and students.
