The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu organized the 10th workshop under the ongoing series for the students and scholars of the Department of Buddhist Studies on Tuesday, 23rd January, 2024. Dr. Ellora Puri, Faculty, Department of Political Science, University of Jammu was the resource person. The programme was planned under the able guidance of Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies.
The programme began with the welcome address by Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Head, Department of Buddhist Studies who appreciated and congratulated the Centre for conducting such an important workshop for their students.
Dr Ellora Puri, the key resource person for the workshop, spoke about the relevance of Gender sensitization workshop for the students and scholars. She began the presentation by explaining how Patriarchy exists in the society and how it led to gender disparities in various spheres. She emphasized that these inequalities can be bridged through such type of gender sensitization workshops. Further she also gave insights on the concept of Sex vs. Gender, Masculinity and Femininity and explained how gender is socially and culturally constructed. While interacting with the student she also highlighted the various examples of Gender stereotypes and suggested various ways through which we can bring change in our mindset for more egalitarian society
Dr. Hema Gandotra, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology and Director In-charge, Centre for Women’s Studies in her concluding remarks spoke about the relevance of Gender sensitization workshop. She explained that through such sensitization programs one will definitely be able to bring the changes in the mindset of the people in near future.
Large number of students and scholars very enthusiastically participated in the workshop and shared their personal experiences and raised many queries which were answered to their satisfaction by the resource person. The workshop was conducted and coordinated by Dr. Saranjit Kaur, and the formal vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Kunzang Angmo both Faculty members, Centre for Women’s Studies. Dr. Rohit Sharma, faculty, Department of Buddhist Studies also coordinated and looked after digital modalities of the workshop.
