NIOL, to Support JU in Distance and Digital Learning Initiatives

Chairperson, National Institute of Open Learning (NIOL), Prof Saroj Sharma called on the Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof Umesh Rai. Speaking on occasion, Prof Umesh Rai dwelt in detail about various innovative initiatives the University of Jammu has taken that include a four-year undergraduate degree program: Design your Degree and College on Wheels (Gyan Udhay Express). Prof Rai further exuded that the Design Your Degree program is unique as it embraces the spirit of NEP 2020. The motto of this program is: Teach to Transform: Educate to Empower and Learn to Lead. He further illustrated that in the recently held two-Days Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam at IECC Pragati Maidan Delhi, UGC Chairman, Prof Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar and UGC Secretary, Prof Manish R Joshi visited the exhibition stall and appreciated the innovative initiative, - Design Your Degree Program, recently launched by the University of Jammu. UGC further amplified the University of Jammu’s initiative by tweeting from its official Twitter handle encouraging learners to visit the University of Jammu’s stall at an education fair in New Delhi. Prof Rai further stated that University is soon starting the College on Wheels (Gyan Udhay Express) which shall be started in the month of November 2023. In this program, University expects that approximately 1000 students and 100 mentors shall be participating.  Prof. Saroj Sharma exhorted that in recent years, distance education has witnessed a tremendous surge in popularity, primarily due to its ability to cater to a diverse range of learners, including working professionals, and to those who seek flexible learning options. The Covid-19 pandemic further highlighted the importance of digital learning methodologies and underscored the need for universities to adapt swiftly to the evolving educational landscape.
