School of Biotechnology

The school was established in December 1998 with significant funding from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India, our School has become a beacon of excellence in the field of biotechnology education and research. Admission to the esteemed M.Sc. Biotechnology program is through the highly competitive Graduate Aptitude Test – Biotechnology (GAT-B), conducted by the Regional Centre for Biotechnology, Faridabad. Since welcoming its first batch in August 1999, the School has proudly graduated over 300 students, many of whom have excelled in national tests like NET-JRF (CSIR-UGC), BET-JRF (DBT), NET-JRF (ICMR), and GATE. Our alumni have secured prestigious positions in research institutes worldwide for their Ph.D, post-doctoral studies, and have also been successfully placed in various government departments and the private sector.

The School follows a comprehensive curriculum prescribed by the DBT for the M.Sc. Biotechnology program, supported by three M.Sc. laboratories and two central facility laboratories, all fully equipped for practical training. Additionally, seven research laboratories house sophisticated equipment such as GC-MS, Bioprocess Facility, Cold Room, Walk-in Chamber, Real-Time PCR, HPTLC, FTIR, HPLC systems, and specialized facilities for animal cell culture, greenhouse, and plant tissue culture.

Recognized for its excellence, the School has received funding from DST-FIST, DST-PURSE (Phase-2), and RUSA. Our faculty has successfully attracted extramural funding from both national and international agencies (DBT, ICMR, DST, UGC, CSIR, NMPB, DRDO, J&K- DST). The entire infrastructure is networked through LAN, with fibre optic connectivity to the University server, enabling seamless access to online journals through UGC-INFLIBNET.

Our vibrant faculty, dedicated research scholars, and committed staff collectively contribute to the School's dynamic growth and development. With research interests spanning plant genomics, microbial genomics, cancer biology, fungal biotechnology, industrial enzymes, bioactive compounds, drug delivery nanotechnology, immunogenomics, metagenomics, and metabolomics, the School fosters an environment of enthusiastic idea exchange among researchers, driven by a shared commitment to advancing the frontiers of biotechnology.
