GENDER SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP SERIES BEGINS AT JU

The Centre for Women’s Studies today organized Gender Sensitization workshop for their P.G Students and scholars of the School of Bio-Technology. Prof. (Dr.) Savita Nayyar, Director and Ms. Kunzang Angmo, faculty from the Centre were the resource persons.

The programme began with the welcome address by Dr. Saranjit Kaur, faculty, Centre for Women’s Studies. In her address she explained the importance of conducting such workshops and threw light on the efforts taken by the Centre to create gender awareness among students and scholars of the University. Prof. Sanajana Kaul, Director, School of Bio- Technology, in her opening remarks spoke about the importance of such workshop and applauded the efforts of the Centre. She further explained that such workshop is an important part of formal education. She stated that such workshops not only change the perspective of individuals but also make society more inclusive.

5489Prof. (Dr.) Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies was the resource person for the workshop, who spoke on the theme: “Gender Sensitization & Prevention of Violence”. She elaborated about the concept of Sexual Harassment against women at workplace wherein she explained the practice of various forms of violence and sexual harassment of women. She also elaborated about the Sexual Harassment Committees constituted in the educational institutions and further elaborated on its working and importance. While interacting with the participants she also shared few landmark Case-Studies related to Sexual Harassment.

Ms. Kunzang Angmo, faculty, Centre was also the resource person for the workshop who spoke on the theme: “Understanding Gender and importance of Gender sensitization”. In her presentation she explained the concept of Sex and Gender with the help of activities. Further, she elaborated on the concept of Gender Roles, Gender Stereotypes, Gender Typing and various causes of Gender discrimination and inequality in the society. At the end of the presentation she also showed a video on the concept of consent.

Large number of students, scholars and faculty members from the Department of Bio- Technology very enthusiastically participated in the workshop. Prof. Madhulika Baghat, faculty, School of Bio-Technology, presented the formal vote of thanks.
