Department of Strategic and Regional Studies, JU Organised a Roundtable Conference on Viksit Bharat-2047

Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), University of Jammu organised a roundtable conference on Viksit Bharat-2024 on 20th December, 2023 in the seminar hall of the DSRS in which the faculty members, research scholars and students participated enthusiastically and expressed their views on the topic of discussion. While introducing the topic Dr. Suneel Kumar argued that India was developed country in the ancient past in terms of knowledge, economy, and military power and had contributed to the emergence of international norms and strategies related to war and peace. However, foreign invaders and colonialism destroyed Indias developed status and denigrated it to a poor and under-developed country. After getting independence, India has achieved new heights in the economic, political, and strategic and security related fields. Dr. Kumar opined that India has sufficient national power and capabilities to be a developed power by 2047.

Adding to this, Dr. Mohd. Monir Alam argued that India needs to make necessary modifications and additions in its higher education system so that foreign students can be attracted for studying in India and about India. Dr. Alam suggested that for this purposes Indian youth particularly university students should contributed to new India specific indigenous ideas to bring the Indian knowledge in the limelight of global community. While participating in the discussion Dr. Ganesh Malhotra opined that since 2014 the Govt. of India is taking bold initiatives in its domestic and foreign affairs making the country strategically more relevant for the International community as it is contributing in the peace-making in international relations. Indias development approach is based on inclusiveness as it has been reflected in its G-20 Presidentship slogan i.e. Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam. Among the research scholars and students Manvi Raina, Ankush Sharma and Vishal Thakur also articulated their opinions about the theme of the discussion.
