A musical programme, “Nam Gum Jayega,” was organised by the Institute of Music & Fine Arts, University of Jammu, at its campus today to pay tribute to Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar and commemorate her birth anniversary.
Prof. Anupama Sharma, a noted singer, was the chief guest on this occasion. Pt. Prithvi Raj Sharma, renowned music director and composer; Jang S. Verman, artist, writer, and journalist; Harish Kaila, music composer; and President Nami Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, were the special guests on this occasion. Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal IMFA, University of Jammu, presided over the programme.
Prof. Shohab, Principal IMFA, while welcoming the guests, informed them that the Institute is regularly conducting various cultural events to promote art, music, and culture, this time an exhibition of portraits of Lata Mangeshkar, which were made by the students, and a programme comprising musical compositions sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
In her address, Prof. Anupama Sharma appreciated the songs and compositions presented by the participants. She said that there is a lot of talent in the local community that needs to be recognised and appreciated with an open heart.
A cultural programme of songs by the students of the Institute and guest artists was presented under the direction of Suraj Singh, a noted singer and a faculty member of the Institute. The singers who presented their musical compositions and songs were basically sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Their presentation was highly received and appreciated by the audience present at the programme. The accompanists who gave music included Suraj Singh on harmonium, Amit on tabla, and Synth.
Rakesh Sharma, Head of the Fine Arts Department, and other staff, students, and guests attended the programme.
