The valedictory function of the Faculty Development Program on Development of Leadership Skills among Future Academic Leaders was held in the Department of Home Science, University of Jammu. Mr. S. A. Mujtaba, Former Member JKPSC and Former DG Prosecution, JKP, was the Chief Guest and Dr. Yasmeen Ashai, Director Colleges, JKUT was the Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Mujtaba encouraged the participants and lauded the efforts of the Department of Home Science and the UGC HRDC, University of Jammu, in organizing the FDP which was on a very relevant and contemporary theme. He said that communication is an essential tool of leadership and as an academician knowledge of one’s field plays a key role. He also mentioned that NEP 2020 focused on inculcating leadership skills and it’s a policy that connects various disciplines. Understanding the culture and context is important for any leader, as is diverse knowledge.
Dr. Yasmeen Ashai, who also happens to be an Alumni of the Department of Home Science, congratulated the organizers for sensitizing future academic leaders on the very pertinent issue of Leadership Development among Academics. She congratulated the Department of Home Science and UGC HRDC for organizing FDP on such a relevant theme in the contemporary educational scenario. She added that an effective leader should rely more on consultative decisions and focus on teamwork, emphasizing the major qualities of leaders and the three key leadership styles i.e., Autocratic, Democratic and Consultative.
Prof. Samridhi Arora, Head, Department of Home Science,welcomed the Guests. She said that the Department has a legacy of Academic Leadership since all its Faculty members and Alumni are working in various Leadership positions in the state, nation and some even abroad. She emphasised the role of Academic Leadership Development in making world-class institutions.
Prof. Neeru Sharma, Course Coordinator, presented a brief report of the 5-day FDP on the Development of Leadership Skills among Future Academic Leaders. The FDP was attended by participants from Universities and Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. The five days of deliberations were held by eminent academic leaders from J &K and other parts of India.
Sh Ranjeet Kalra, Teaching Faculty, UGC HRDC, presented a formal vote of thanks, lauding the efforts of the Department of Home Science in organizing such events. He also lauded the role of Non-Teaching Staff and the Scholars of the Department of Home Science.
Others present on the occasion were Prof. Jasbir Singh, Prof. Shashi Manhas,Dr. Arpana Langeh, Ms Anu Choudhary,Dr.Charu Mohan, Organizing Secretary,Dr. Vikram Sahi, Mr. Ashwin, and research scholars. The proceedings of the programme was conducted by Ms. Sonia Rani, research scholar in the Department of Home Science.
