The Department of Zoology, University of Jammu, organizes a 7-day Workshop on “Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Techniques” from 14th –20th Nov. 2022, sponsored by DST under the STUTI programme in collaboration with IIT Gandhinagar, Gujarat.  The Department of Zoology has been selected as the training centre in northern India for STUTI Programme sponsored through IIT Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The Welcome note was addressed by the Convener of the workshop, Dr. Arti Sharma, Senior Assistant Professor, and the introduction about the workshop was detailed by the organizing secretary of the workshop, Dr. Rakesh K. Panjaliya.the coordinator of the workshop, Prof. Seema Langer, Head, Department of Zoology, and Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Jammu joined the session remotely (online) and conveyed her heartiest wishes to the dignitaries and the participants.  The occasion was graced by the chief Guest, Prof. Rajni Kant, Dean of Research Studies and Dean of Sciences, University of Jammu. Prof. Rajni Kant, congratulated the Head, Prof. Seema Langer, faculty members, and the Department of Zoology for hosting such a useful workshop that will be beneficial for the participants and students in their research work. He also discussed the widespread applicability of AAS from the field of Physics, Chemistry, Biological Science, Geology etc. and his visionary talk motivated the participants for research and basic fundamental studies for a rounded growth, encouraging them to read books. Guest of honour Prof. B. D. Joshi, Emeritus Professor, Former Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar shared his word of wisdom and congratulated the participants and emphasized the usefulness of such workshop especially such hands-on training. The distinguished Keynote Speaker, Dr. Ravindra Kumar, Head, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology division of ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow. Dr. Ravindra gave a keynote lecture on the topic “Polymerase Chain Reaction” and discussed the PCR technology in great detail with elaborate methodology, types of PCR and applicability.This workshop is attended by 32 selected participants and students from various academic institutes of the state and all over India. The inaugural function ended with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Chinmoyee Maharana, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, University of Jammu. Among other present were the Teachers, non-teaching staff, research scholars from the department of Zoology and faculty of other Science Departments from University of Jammu.
