Under the Gender Sensitization Workshop Series, the Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu organized third workshop for the PG students of Department of Psychology and Home Science, University of Jammu on Monday, 27th September 2021.  Dr. Sadhana Natu, eminent Academician, Researcher, Activist, Feminist Psychotherapist, Head Department of Psychology, Modern College, Pune was the resource person. The workshop began with the welcome address by Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu, who after welcoming all the participants introduced the Resource person to them and also apprised all the participants with the objective of conducting such workshop.

Dr. Sadhana Natu the key speaker for the workshop spoke about the concept of gender and intersectionality. She discussed the concept of Masculinity and illustrated with many examples. She also averred that gender roles are actually the life skills which every individual should learn irrespective of gender. She emphasized on how gendering is done in  education, career, professionalism and the compulsion of marriage which leads to limiting the access of choices in these areas. Further she also gave details about the Violence taking place in different form in the society and focused on taking up this as important discourse in the Social Sciences.

Prof Arti Bakhshi, Head, Department of Psychology in her address highlighted about the need of Gender sensitization and also appreciated the efforts of the Centre for conducting workshop on such a relevant contemporary issue. She also emphasized that issues like gender justice, gender equality and power relations, lack of education, poor medical facilities and political representation should be taken as important issues. She also stressed upon opening of Gender Sensitization Cells and Online portal in the campus to take up these issues.

Prof. Samridhi Arora, Head Department of Home Science spoke about the gender differences prevalent in the society and appreciated the efforts of the Centre to conduct such type of workshops for the students and scholars of the University.

The workshop was attended by large number of participants comprising of students and Faculty of Psychology and Home Science department and from within and outside the University. The workshop was very enthusiastically attended by the participants and they actively took part in the discussion which was followed by the presentation.  The participants raised many queries on issues like stereotypical roles, Violence, Gender equality etc.  The workshop was conducted by Dr Saranjit Kaur, faculty Centre for Women Studies and she also presented the formal vote of thanks.
