The Jambu Lochan Boys Hostel at the University of Jammu hosted a comprehensive and engaging interactive session titled "Addressing Drug & Substance Abuse: A Multidisciplinary Approach." This event, conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Lalitsen Sharma, Provost of the Boys Hostel, aimed to raise awareness among boarders about the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse.
The session aligned with the guidelines provided by the National Institute of Social Defence and supported the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which seeks to combat substance abuse in higher educational institutions. The session featured a panel of esteemed speakers, including Sh. Kartik Shrotia IPS, SDPO Gandhinagar, who shared his expertise on the role of law enforcement agencies in preventing drug abuse; Advocate Uma Kapahi, DLSA Jammu, who discussed the legal aspects of drug abuse and the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985; and Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Assistant Professor, The Law School, who
highlighted the importance of academia in addressing drug abuse. Sh. Kartik Shrotia emphasized the significant social, physical, and emotional health risks associated with illicit drug use and encouraged boarders to be ambassadors against drug menace in their respective areas. Kapahi discussed provisions of NDPS Act, recent case studies and the importance of legal awareness in preventing drug abuse.
The boarders actively participated in the session, sharing their experiences and asking questions. Avinash Choudhary, Parth Raina, Ashwani Sharma, Atul Katal, Touqeer, and Vaibhav Dabur raised specific queries on the issue and enriched the
discussion with examples from their surroundings.
The session was skillfully conducted by Dr. Satyapriya Arya, Warden, and concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Nitan Sharma, Resident Warden.
