Tree Talk organized by Bawa Jitto Boys’ Hostel, University of Jammu

In an engaging event organised by Bawa Jitto Boys Hostel (BJBH), University of Jammu, retired principal chief conservator of forests, Sh. O. P. Sharma, delivered an insightful tree talk emphasising the critical role of trees in biodiversity conservation. The event saw the presence of organisers including Prof. (Dr.) Lalit Sen Sharma, Provost, Boys’ Hostels, Dr. Jaspal Singh Warwal, Warden Baba Jitto Boys’ Hostel, Resident Warden Dr. Rajesh Sharma, and numerous boarders. Dr. Satyapriya, Warden of Jambu Lochan Boys’ Hostel, Dr. Ripudaman Parihar, Warden of Swami Vivekananda Boys’ Hostel, along with other resident wardens, also attended the event.

The esteemed guest of the programme, Sh. O. P. Sharma, specifically highlighted the value of trees in biodiversity conservation, stressing how this crucial theme is underscored in the vision of "Viksit Bharat-2047". He elaborated on how sustainable development, a key pillar of Viksit Bharat, hinges on the conservation and enhancement of our natural resources, particularly trees. Trees play an essential role in mitigating climate change, preserving ecosystems, and maintaining ecological balance—all of which are vital for achieving a developed and sustainable India by 2047.

The talk provided a platform for an in-depth discussion on the significance of trees in sustaining ecological balance and supporting diverse life forms. The importance of integrating tree plantation and conservation into community and national development plans was a key takeaway, aligning with the broader goals of Viksit Bharat and sustainable development.

The event concluded with an interactive session where boarders and wardens discussed various strategies and initiatives to enhance tree plantation and conservation efforts within their communities. This dialogue emphasised the collective responsibility of driving sustainable development and achieving the ambitious vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Jambu Lochan Boys’ Hostel holds Insightful Session on the Transformative Role of Education and NEP- 2020

Jammu, 15, July:  Jambu Lochan Boys Hostel, University of Jammu hosted an interactive session focusing on the role of education as a liberating force. Prof. (Dr.) Prasannanshu from National Law University, Delhi, delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the need to transcend parochial boundaries and adopt an interdisciplinary perspective as envisaged by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The event was organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Lalitsen Sharma, Provost Boys Hostel, with support from Dr. Satyapriya Arya and Dr. Nitan Sharma, the Warden and Resident Warden, respectively.

The session emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary learning, as advocated by the NEP 2020. Prof. Prasannanshu explained that an interdisciplinary approach breaks down the silos of traditional education, encouraging students to integrate knowledge from different domains. This holistic perspective is vital for addressing contemporary challenges that require comprehensive solutions. By understanding diverse viewpoints and cultures, students can become more empathetic and socially responsible citizens. He urged the boarders to embrace lifelong learning and to remain curious and open-minded. He emphasized that educators must inspire students to think beyond conventional boundaries and to apply their knowledge practically.
