Event Overview:

The Cleanest Hostel Room Contest was held on 22nd November 2024 with the objective of promoting a culture of cleanliness among the hostel boarders. The contest aimed to appreciate those boarders who maintain their rooms in a neat and orderly manner.

Short listing of Rooms:

A total of 15 rooms were shortlisted for the contest, as recommended by the Warden's Committee. The rooms selected were as follows:

  • 104, 105, 108, 203, 208, 209, 211, 215, 301, 306, 307, 308, 309, 310, 311

Inspection by the Assessment Committee:

The inspection was conducted by a committee consisting of Prof. Rakesh Vaid (Convener), Dr. Vijay Sehgal, and Dr. Pritam Singh. The committee members evaluated the cleanliness of rooms where boarders were present at the time of the contest. The rooms inspected included:

  • 105, 108, 203, 208, 215, 306, 307, and 309.

Criteria for Evaluation:

The rooms were judged based on the following 10 criteria, each carrying 10 marks:

  1. Cleanliness of Floor: Ensuring the floor was swept, mopped, and free of dust or stains.
  2. Use and Placement of Dustbins: Correct placement of dustbins within the room and proper usage for waste disposal.
  3. Dusting and Cleanliness of Fans and Electric Boards: Ensuring that fans and electrical boards were free from dust.
  4. Cleanliness of Window Panes, Doors, and Ventilators: Windows, doors, and ventilators were expected to be spotless and free from smudges or dirt.
  5. Cleanliness and Non-Defacing of Walls: The walls should be free of stains, marks, stickers, or any form of defacement.
  6. Cleanliness of Bedsheets and Pillow Covers: Properly washed, neat, and well-maintained bedsheets and pillow covers.
  7. Arrangement of Tables, Chairs, etc.: Properly arranged and organized furniture, ensuring the room was tidy and orderly.
  8. Upkeep of Cupboard and Proper Placement of Items: Neatness of the cupboard and correct organization of clothes and items.
  9. Proper Keeping of Shoes, Chappals, etc.: Shoes and footwear should be neatly placed and not scattered.
  10. Proper Upkeep of Toiletries: Toiletries should be organized, clean, and in good condition.

Observations and Guidelines:

During the inspection, the committee members provided valuable suggestions for improvement. They advised the boarders to:

  • Keep the walls of their rooms clean, avoiding the practice of pasting stickers or drawing paintings on them.
  • Ensure that their rooms remained neat and tidy at all times.

Results of the Contest:

The final results were determined after careful evaluation and point calculation by the committee members. The winners were as follows:

  1. 1st Position: Room No. 215
  2. 2nd Position: Room No. 203
  3. 3rd Position: Room No. 306

Conclusion:

The Cleanest Hostel Room Contest successfully encouraged boarders to take pride in maintaining cleanliness in their living spaces. The event not only fostered a sense of responsibility among the boarders but also highlighted the importance of maintaining a hygienic and pleasant environment within the hostel premises. The winners were congratulated, and all participants were encouraged to continue upholding cleanliness standards in their rooms.
