DD&OE JU commemorates International Mother Language Day

The Directorate of Distance and Online Education (DD&OE), University of Jammu marked the International Mother Language Day with joy and in a grand manner.  Prof. Anju Bhasin, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest and Prof. Sucheta Pathania, Dean Faculty of Arts was the Guest of Honor whereas Prof. Pankaj Srivastava, Director, DD&OE presided over the function, The other dignitaries who shared the dais includes Prof. Savita Nayar, Convener, NSS Unit, Jammu University and Dr. Jasleen Kaur, DD&OE. A large number of students, scholars, faculty members of language departments of the University and intellectuals were present on this occasion.

Prof. Anju Bhasin in her presidential address emphasized the need for progressive writing in Dogri and good translation of books from different languages into Dogri. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sucheta Pathania emphasized the use of mother languages in the education of children because they can understand things easily in their mother tongue.

Prof. Pankaj Srivastava in his address threw light on the historical background of International Mother Language Day and emphasized the importance and relevance of International Mother Language in the psychological and social growth of an individual, which leads to the growth of the society as a whole.

Prof. Savita Nayar in her address highlighted the activities of NSS and stressed the use of mother tongue in their day-to-day communication as everyone can express their views in their mother tongue smoothly.

Dr. Jasleen Kaur while welcoming the Guests and audience, congratulated all on this auspicious day. Dr. Sandeep Dubey, Asstt. Professor, Department of Dogri, University of Jammu delivered a motivational lecture that inspired the audience a lot.

The students of the DD&OE also presented earlier a colorful cultural program under the supervision of Dr. Neelam Choudhary, Convener, Cultural Committee, DD&OE and Dr. Rajber Singh Sodhi, PO NSS  Unit-V, DD&OE.

          The program proceedings were ably conducted by Dr. Jatinder Singh, Lecturer in Dogri and he also presented a  formal vote of thanks.
