5 Days Theatre Workshop organized by DSW, JU concluded at GCW Udhampur

A successful theatre workshop under ‘Training Outreach Programme’ initiated by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, under the visionary guidance of Prof. Umesh Rai, esteemed Vice-Chancellor concluded at GCW Udhampur. This unique programme offers training opportunities in performing arts and fine arts to the students of colleges located outside Jammu. The workshop was organized in collaboration with Govt. College for Women, Udhampur.

Prof. Monika Chadha (Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Prof. Sarika Manhas (Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Dr. Anjali Mahajan (Principal, GCW, Udhampur) alongwith the faculty members of GCW, Udhampur were present at the valedictory function.  The programme was coordinated by Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor, SW) and Dr. Yash Kumar from the Department of Music, GCW, Udhampur.

Prof. Prakash Antahal (Dean Students Welfare), informed that the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu keeps on organizing several training camps/workshops of music, dance, theatre, fine arts etc. for the benefit of students of university and affiliated colleges. But it has been observed that most of the time, the students from far-off places don’t find it feasible to come a long way to participate in the workshops. So, to overcome this limitation, the Department of Students Welfare has formulated this initiative which extends the benefit of professional training/orientation to maximum students.

Prof. Monika Chadha stated that under the Training Outreach programme, the Department of Students Welfare sends the expert resource persons to conduct the short-term workshops in colleges located at far-off places. One college (as per geographical location) is designated to become the nodal college which coordinates with its nearby colleges and invites those students who are interested in availing the benefit of training. This way the orientation reaches to more students who have talent but require proper guidance. This programme has successfully kindled an interest for cultural/literary/fine-arts activities amongst the students which is an important aspect for their holistic personality development.

Dr. Anjali Mahajan shared that GCW, Udhampur is always keen to organize the activities which are for the benefit of the students and this collaboration would definitely yield positive results. The college had invited students from the nearby colleges to participate in this workshop and around 55 students from different colleges of Udhampur had participated in this workshop. The success of the workshop could be easily gauged from the positive and stimulating feedback from the participants who asserted that this was a never before experience for them which has made their personalities blossom.

The events of DSW are organized by the team consisting of Prof. Prakash Antahal, Prof. Monika Chadha, Prof. Sarika Manhas, Dr. Pritam Singh (Associate Dean SW) Dr. Garima Gupta (Assistant Dean, SW), Dr. A.R.
