Department of Sociology, University of Jammu, in collaboration with ‘Sanjeevani- Life Beyond Cancer’ a Non-Profit Organization pioneer in ‘Comprehensive Cancer Care’ organized a webinar on 4th of December, 2021 for the students and scholars of the Department, on the Theme - “Awareness on Cancer Prevention and Healthy Lifestyle”
Prof. Vishav Raksha, Head, Department of Sociology in her inaugural address extended a warm welcome to the resource person from Sanjeevani and Faculty, Students and Scholars of the University of Jammu. She emphasized the importance of such awareness sessions for students and other participants. She also highlighted the scope of collaborating with such NGO's on various important themes.
The Resource person Ms Florina Singh, Senior Consultant PGI Chandigarh, made a detailed Power Point Presentation, where in she spoke about the working of
Sanjeevani- Life Beyond Cancer and further its role for creating awareness for prevention and early detection of Cancer. She further gave detailed information about different types of Cancers and their causes. Ms Florina also highlighted Cancer being considered as Taboo and how cancer patients are discriminated in the society.
Dr. Hema Gandotra, Senior Assistant Professor Department of Sociology highlighted the issue of mental health besides the physical health and pointed out that to cope up with the distressing situations one needs to be both physically and mentally fit. She also thanked Sanjeevani – Life Beyond Cancer for collaborating with the Department and for generating awareness among students and scholars.
An interactive session followed by the Quiz based on the presentation was also conducted at the end of the session for the participants. Miss Neha Uttam, Miss Harsimrat Kour and Miss Ifra Chouhan stood first, second and third respectively. Among others who were present included Ms Kajal Kalsi, Dr. Saranjit Kour and the students from Centre for Women’s Studies.
