Poonch campus conducted a two days workshop on “Emerging Trends in Silk Farming”
The Poonch Campus, University of Jammu organized a two days workshop on “Emerging Trends in Silk Farming”. The workshop aimed to provide insights about advanced tools and technologies used in silk farming and empowering students with advanced knowledge of entrepreneurship and its promotion in the field of sericulture. The Director of Poonch Campus, Prof. Rakesh Vaid graced the occasion and inaugurated the two-day workshop by lighting the lamp and addressed the gathering by emphasizing the significance of modern techniques in silk farming. The event commenced with the welcome address by In-charge Department of Sericulture, Poonch Campus, Dr. Jasmeena Qadir who outlined the objectives of the program and stressed on the importance of latest trends employed for development of sericulture on October 27th, 2025. The first technical session began with valuable insights on the theme by Dr. Tabasum Naaz and Dr. Aurangzeb Anjum, Associate Professors, Department of Zoology, SKC-GDC Poonch. The session turned lively and informative by a lecture of Dr. Mohammad Azam, Principal, SCS-GDC Mendhar and Dr. Arti Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Sericulture, SKC-GDC Poonch who delivered a lecture on innovative practices and skills used in sericulture. The M.sc sericulture students of Poonch campus gave a brief introduction about them and shared their insights on sericulture practices operated in district Poonch and across Jammu and Kashmir. The program was followed by a vibrant cultural performance which added charm and enthusiasm to the occasion. Meanwhile, Director of Poonch Campus, Prof. Rakesh Vaid and other dignitaries released the booklet of Poonch Campus. The first session concluded with insightful remarks by Director Poonch Campus who appreciated the efforts of the organizers and encouraged the participants to continue learning and exploring new ideas. The workshop was attended by a large number of undergraduate students of Sericulture and Zoology from SKC-GDC Poonch whose active involvement made the workshop lively and successful.
The second technical session was addressed by Director of Poonch Campus, Prof. Rakesh Vaid by unfolding the significance of adopting modern techniques in sericulture on October, 28th 2025 that created an enthusiastic atmosphere among the participants. The session bloomed with the enthusiasm of keynote speaker, Dr. Shamim Ahmad Banday, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, SKC-GDC Poonch who encouraged the participants to explore innovative approaches for the development and promotion of smart sericulture. Ms Avinder Kour, Circle Officer, Sericulture Development Department, Poonch delivered an insightful session and elaborated the latest sericulture schemes and techniques being implemented in the sericulture and encouraged the participants to adopt such schemes and techniques for their benefit and for the overall advancement of sericulture. Dr. Marouf Khan, HOD Botany, GDC-Mendhar and Dr. Sarshad Hussain, HOD Zoology, GDC-Mendhar shared their valuable insights about sericulture which added depth and positivity to the entire event. The valedictory function was held with graceful remarks by Prof. Rakesh Vaid, Director Poonch Campus who presented token of appreciation to keynote speakers. The workshop “Emerging Trends in Silk Farming” concluded with vote of thanks presented by Dr. Ravi Kant, Lecturer, Department of Sericulture, Poonch Campus. The session was attended by large number of undergraduate students from SCS-GDC Mendhar and faculty members, students, teaching and non-teaching staff of Poonch campus, University of Jammu.
