The Kathak Department of the Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu, inaugurated a ten-day workshop on the "Techniques of Kathak Used in Bollywood Choreography" here this morning in presence of Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, alongside students, faculty members, and civil society members within the IMFA premises.
In his inaugural address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai commended the Kathak Department for organizing a workshop on such a pertinent theme. He emphasized the significant place that Music & Fine Arts hold in the New Education Policy (NEP) and highlighted the importance of such workshops in educating students about the NEP. Prof. Rai acknowledged the crucial role of Kathak techniques in Bollywood, particularly in classical films, and stressed the need to pass on traditional Indian dance forms to the new generation. He further assured that IMFA, being an integral part of the University of Jammu, would receive all necessary support in the future.
Dr. Priya Dutta, Head of the Music Department, spoke about the aims and objectives of the workshop. She informed that participants include students from the Kathak Dance Department and various schools across the Jammu region. Dr. Dutta also announced that more workshops would be organized to revive Indian traditional culture in the near future.
Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal of IMFA, in his welcome address, highlighted the challenges faced by IMFA, including issues related to faculty and infrastructure. He complimented Dr. Priya Dutta and her team for their efforts in organizing this meaningful workshop.
The workshop, attended by 32 participants from IMFA and different schools in the Jammu province, is being held in collaboration with the Himalayan Education Mission, Rajouri.
Rajkumar Sharma conducted the proceedings of the program and extended a vote of thanks. Other faculty members present included Sh. Sunil Raina, Sh. Suraj Singh, Dr. Sumeet Madan, Dr. Deepali Wattal, Smt. Bindu Sharma, Dr. Jasmeet Kour, Dr. Roshi Shaminotra, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Sujata Rajput, and Sh. Vijay Kumar.
