The Office of the Programme Co-ordinator NSS, University of Jammu organised a Two Day NSS Orientation workshop for the NSS Programme Officers of the NSS Campus units of University of Jammu and the affiliated colleges of the University of Jammu from 10th to 11th June, 2024. Around 80 NSS Programme Officers participated in the workshop. Prof Rajeev Rattan, Director, Colleges Development was the Chief Guest and Prof Vishav Raksha, Head Dept of Sociology was the Guest of Honor for the Inaugural Programme. Dr. Hema Gandotra, Programme Coordinator, NSS, University of Jammu, in her welcome address, formally welcomed the delegates. She deliberated on the importance of such workshops for bringing about change in the society. She further highlighted the role of NSS programme officers in guiding and mentoring the NSS volunteers, nurturing their potential and channelling their energy towards impactful community service. During her address, she expressed her gratitude to the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai, also the Chairperson of the NSS and the Director Colleges, Higher Education, J&K UT, Prof Yaseem Ashai for their support and motivation in organising this workshop. Prof Rajeev Rattan, the Chief Guest of the occasion appreciated the NSS programme Officers for their participation in a large number. He also shared his experiences of being the Convenor, NSS Campus Units and the NSS Programme Officer. He highlighted the social issues where in the programme officers can contribute and help the volunteers to put in their efforts. Prof Vishav Raksha, the Guest of Honor of the programme complimented the Office of the Programme Coordinator, NSS for organising this event. She highlighted the need for such a workshop which can help the newly appointed Programme Officers to get trained. She focussed on the motto of the NSS, and the responsibilities of Programme Officers and Volunteers.Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, NSS Programme Officer, conducted the inaugural session and also proposed formal vote of thanks. The session II of the workshop was conducted by Prof Vishav Raksha. While throwing light on the prerequisites of the Workshop, she focussed on the need of going through the NSS manual for the smooth functioning of the NSS in colleges and Universities. She also highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the NSS Programme officers in training the NSS volunteers. Sharing her own experience of being the former NSS Programme Coordinator, she focussed on the role of the Office of the Coordinator office in bridging the gap between the colleges and the State nodal Office. The Session III of the workshop was conducted by Prof Jasbir Sigh, Director Kishtwar Campus. Prof Sigh focussed on the Role of NSS in Higher Education. He focussed on how the National Service is a medium for National Integration. He highlighted the objectives of National Service Scheme and NSS approaches. He also focussed on the activities related to NSS. Among others who attended the workshop included Dr N Suresh Rao, Ms. Neha Uttam, Ms. Manu Saini, Mr. Lokesh Kumar, Mr. Shiv Pal, Ms Rishu Chowdhary and Mr. Jagoo Singh the office Staff of Office of the Programme Coordinator.
