The Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, today organised a one-day workshop on “Basic Communication Skills” in the premises of Ved Mandir, Amphala, Jammu. The workshop was conducted as per the vision of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai to bring the students out of the class and impart project based learning.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Jeevan Jyoti, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu. In her inaugural speech, she apprised the students about the importance of communication skills in their careers and future endeavors. The main objective of the workshop was to enable the students to learn the basic skills of communication so that they can communicate well in their lives. The main themes of the workshop were formal and informal communication skills, conversation starters, etc.
The special resource person for the workshop was Ms. Swati Basotra, Motivational speaker and entrepreneur. She explained to the students the components of formal and informal communication skills. She also involved the students through various activities, such as story telling and self-introduction techniques, to enhance their communication skills. The evaluation of the students was also done in the end by the resource person.
Mr. Nagarmal, Secretary of the Ved Mandir Trust, also spoke on the occasion. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Rewa Khajuria, counsellor, Department of Lifelong Learning. About 32 students from Ved Mandir very enthusiastically participated in the workshop. Among the other presenters were Mrs. Manisha, the teacher of the school.
