JU organizes an Interactive Session to celebrate International Women’s Day

The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, organized an Interactive Session today to commemorate International Women’s Day on the theme “Menopause: Embrace the Change through Knowledge and Self-Care”  for the faculty members, scholars, and students of the University of Jammu. Dr. Renu Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, AIIMS, Vijaypur, Jammu, was the resource person.

Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, the Centre for Women’s Studies, formally welcomed all the participants and explained the importance of this session. She said Menopause is an inevitable phase of women’s life and it is crucial to have awareness on the topic to support the women to understand this significant transitional phase. Further, she said that through this session, we will be more comfortable in handling the various issues related to menopause.

Dr. Renu Sharma, the resource person for the session began the session by explaining what Menopause is and at what stage it usually occurs. She said that ageing is inevitable, and as we get older, several changes occur in our body and menopause is one of them. Further, she explained about other related issues like Pre-mature menopause, Ovarian failure, Auto-immune diseases, Hysterectomy, and elaborated on the different stages of Menopause. She also stated that there are many issues that women go through and they rarely talk about the Urogenital System where women go through Vaginal Dryness, Overactive Bladder, UV prolapse, etc. Through her presentation, she also narrated a few case studies. She elaborated on the Neuromuscular, Genitourinary syndrome of menopause and stressed that apart from medical remedial measures, a balanced diet and regular exercise play a vital role in effectively dealing with the problem.

A large number of faculty members, scholars, and students from various departments very enthusiastically participated in the program and shared their personal experiences and raised many queries, which were answered to their satisfaction by the resource person. Among those who were present were Prof. Suman Jamwal, Prof. Namrata Sharma, Prof. Ramni Gupta, Prof. Kavita Suri, Prof. Jeevan Jyoti, Prof. Monica Sethi, Dr. Monica Narang, Dr. Bindu Sangra, Dr. Tsering Yangzom, Dr. Ekta Sharma, and Ms. Diksha Nargotra. The session was conducted and coordinated by Dr. Saranjit Kaur, and the formal vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Kunzang Angmo, both faculty members of the Centre for Women’s Studies.
