Department of Home Science, University of Jammu in collaboration with CHILDLINE IndiaFoundation, J&K organized a NukkadNatak to celebrate the National Girl Child Day atPlatform No. 1 Railway Station, Jammu.
National Girl Child day celebrated annually on 24th January, is a beacon of hope and action spotlighting the challenges faced by the girls and championing their rights, education and their overall well-being. This day retains its unwavering significance, urging us to reflect on the girl child’s journey and pave the wave for brighter future. With this objective in mind the Department of Home Science organised a Nukkad Natak to celebrate and generate awareness on the importance of girl’s education, their health and well-being. The students of Home Science performed the Natak on crucial aspects like female foeticide, girl child education, Sexual Harassment, Gender Discrimination and their issueswhich were the key highlights of the programme. The students also made the audience take a pledge that they will respect women and will not kill girls in the womb anymore. The impactful event not only educated but also ignited a sense of responsibility and encouraged everyone towards empowerment and development of girl child. The Nukkad Natak was well appreciated by the passengers at the Railway Station. The whole event was video graphed and photographed by the public and passengers.
Prof. Samridhi Arora, Head, Department of Home Science and Coordinator of the Programme highlighted the importance of the celebration of such day to increase the sensitization and awareness towards the issues related to the Girl Child.She also highlighted that such programmes enhance the understanding of the masses/community towards the injustice the girl’s experiences in the society in their education, safety, security and survival.
Ms. Manjari Singh, Programme Coordinator, CHILDLINE India Foundation also spoke on the occasion and complimented the efforts of the Department of Home Science towards generating awareness on crucial issues in the society. She showed her enthusiasm in collaborating for more such programmes with the Department.
The Programme witnessed the presence of Mr.Juggal Kishore Sharma, Station Master, Railway Station Jammu. He appreciated and applauded the performance of the students at the Railway Station. He was of the opinion that more such awareness programmes can be organized for the passengers and public at the Railway Station.
The event was attended by Dr. Charu Mohan, Senior Scientist, Dr. Priyanka Sharma, Lecturer Ms. Anu Choudhary, Lecturer, Mr.Ghar Singh, Lab Attendant, students and scholars.
