The Law School, University of Jammu hosts Three-Day ‘Deeksharambh’ Student Induction Programme
The Law School, University of Jammu, successfully concluded its three-day Student Induction Programme, ‘Deeksharambh 2026’, for the newly admitted batch of 2026–27. The programme was designed to orient students towards professional ethics, discipline, nation-building, social responsibility and career preparedness.
The program provided a comprehensive overview of the legal profession, emphasizing holistic development through a series of engaging lectures, interactive workshops and insightful sessions by distinguished legal luminaries, and accomplished alumni.The programme commenced with an inaugural address by Prof. Seema Rohmetra, Director, The Law School, University of Jammu, who welcomed the new entrants and spoke about the institution’s legacy of academic excellence, integrity and holistic development. She urged students to approach the study of law not merely as a profession, but as a commitment to justice and society. The highlight of the day was a Distinguished Lecture by Shri Dinesh Singh Chauhan, Senior Advocate, High Court of J&K, who, drawing upon four decades of experience at the Bar, guided students on courtroom conduct, professional ethics and the importance of analytical thinking, rigorous preparation and integrity in legal practice. The day also featured interactive sessions aimed at instilling leadership and civic values. Prof. Vishav Raksha, Professor & Head, Department of Sociology, President, NWISA & Convener, NSS, University of Jammu, highlighted the role of youth in social welfare through NSS initiatives.Dr. Isha Sharma, Associate NCC Officer, introduced students to the discipline and spirit of the NCC, while Shri Haroon Malik, Rover Scout Leader, Bharat Scouts & Guides, spoke on character building and community service.
The second day focused on institutional discipline and the larger responsibilities of students as citizens. Dr. Shallu Sharma, Associate Professor & Deputy Chief Proctor, oriented students on the University’s Code of Conduct, disciplinary guidelines and anti-ragging measures, emphasizing the need for a safe, respectful and harmonious campus environment. This was followed by an address from Shri Nitin Hangloo, State Director (In-Charge), MY Bharat, J&K, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, who spoke on youth empowerment and the pivotal role of young people in nation-building and democratic resilience. Students also participated in a guided campus familiarisation tour to acquaint themselves with key academic and institutional facilities. The day concluded with an important session on substance-abuse prevention by Shri Rohit Abrol, Project Manager-cum-Centre In-charge, JKSPYM, who underscores the proactive role youth must play in building a drug-free society. The session was followed by the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan pledge reiterating their commitment to create a drug free society. The concluding day featured an engaging interaction with Advocate Amit Gupta who dwelled upon the advocacy skills and professional ethics. The Alumni Interaction with distinguished alumni of The Law School was the main highlight of the day wherein the alumni shared insights from their professional journeys and guided students on internships, competitive examinations, skill development and career opportunities in the legal field. The panel included Rajkamal Arya, deputy Registrar Armed Forces Tribunal , Slah ud Din, Jammu, Sub Judge Special Mobile Magistrate Jammu,Meenakshi Salathia Deputy Advocate General, Advocate Nitan Parihar and Advocate Garima Gupta
The three-day programme concluded on an inspiring note, reaffirming The Law School’s commitment to nurturing ethical, responsible, disciplined and professionally competent future members of the legal fraternity. Dr Monica Narang presented the formal vote of thanks and the programme was conducted by Dr Mrinalini and Dr Kartika Bakshi.
