University of Jammu in collaboration with Jammu Kashmir Study Centre Commemorates Kargil Vijay Diwas

Jammu, August 04: The Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Jammu Kashmir Study Centre, commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas by organising a special lecture to honour the valour and supreme sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1999 Kargil War.
In his special lecture, Mr. Pradeep Dutta, Consulting Editor, NDTV, reflected on the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas through the lens of a war correspondent who witnessed the conflicts across the globe. Drawing upon his extensive experience of reporting from the different battlefields, he narrated the extraordinary courage, resilience and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces under extremely challenging conditions. He emphasized that the Kargil War not only demonstrated India's military prowess and strategic resolve but also strengthened national unity and reaffirmed the importance of vigilance in safeguarding the country's territorial integrity. Mr. Dutta also highlighted the indispensable role of responsible and credible journalism during times of conflict, noting that accurate reporting serves as a bridge between the battlefield and the nation while preserving the legacy of the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in the service of the motherland.
This lecture provided participants with valuable insights into the intersection of journalism, defence, and strategic affairs. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars and students of the department, who paid rich tributes to the brave soldiers whose sacrifice ensured India's victory in the Kargil War.
Earlier in his welcome address, Prof. Virender Koundal, Director, Department of Strategic and Regional Studies, University of Jammu highlighted the enduring significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas in India's military history. He remarked that the victory at Kargil stands as a testament to the courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment of the Indian Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He urged students to draw inspiration from the spirit of patriotism, resilience and national service demonstrated by the Kargil heroes.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Ganesh Malhotra, expressing gratitude to Mr. Pardeep Dutta for his enlightening address and acknowledging the collaborative efforts of the Department of Strategic and Regional Studies and the Jammu Kashmir Study Centre in organising the commemorative programme.
