University of Jammu Professor Dr. Kamal K. Kapoor Conferred Prestigious CRSI Bronze Medal 2027 for Excellence in Chemical Research

Jammu, July 15: The University of Jammu takes immense pride in announcing that Prof. Kamal K. Kapoor of the Department of Chemistry has been selected for the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) Bronze Medal 2027—one of India's most distinguished honours recognizing outstanding young chemical scientists for original and impactful contributions to chemical research.
Instituted in 1999, the CRSI Bronze Medal is awarded to scientists whose pioneering research has significantly advanced the frontiers of chemical sciences. Dr. Kapoor has earned this prestigious recognition for his sustained and innovative contributions to organic chemistry, particularly in the fields of heterocyclic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and chemo-sensor development.
Dr. Kapoor received his Ph.D. from IIT Kanpur and has been serving the University of Jammu since 1995, where he currently holds the position of Professor.
Dr. Kapoor's research accomplishments are reflected in more than 85 peer-reviewed publications in reputed national and international scientific journals, many of which have made significant contributions to contemporary organic and medicinal chemistry. His work has also translated into innovation, with six U.S. patents to his credit, underscoring the practical impact and global relevance of his research.
Beyond publications, his greatest legacy lies in nurturing scientific talent. Under his guidance, 29 scholars have earned Ph.D. degrees and 15 have completed M.Phil., while several research scholars continue to pursue advanced research in his laboratory. His research programmes have attracted competitive funding from agencies including the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Dr. Kapoor's scientific excellence has earned him recognition well beyond India's borders. He has represented Indian science through prestigious academic and research engagements in Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia. He was awarded the DST-BOYSCAST Fellowship at Tokushima Bunri University, Japan, the INSA–Royal Society Fellowship at the University of Bath, United Kingdom, and a research fellowship at the University of Regensburg, Germany. He was also selected for the Leadership for Academicians Programme (LEAP), under which he underwent advanced academic leadership training at Monash University, Australia. These international engagements reflect the global appreciation of his scientific expertise and have fostered valuable international research collaborations.
Complementing his academic career, Dr. Kapoor has made notable contributions to pharmaceutical research and innovation by serving as Lead Scientist at the Dabur Research Foundation, Director of Medicinal Chemistry at Sphaera Pharma Pvt. Ltd., and Advisory Consultant to Curadev Pharma Pvt. Ltd. His ability to bridge fundamental research with industrial applications has strengthened the translational impact of his scientific work.
Among his many distinctions, Dr. Kapoor was invited to deliver the prestigious Platinum Jubilee Lecture during the 107th Indian Science Congress, an honour reserved for scientists with exceptional research credentials and national standing.
