Field Study on Post-2019 Governance Dynamics conducted by  University of Jammu

Jammu, Feb 20: Department of Political Science, University of Jammu successfully organized a comprehensive field study visit for Semester IV postgraduate students from February 16 to February 20, 2026. The academic exercise was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Baljit Singh Mann, Head of the Department, as an integral component of the MA Political Science final semester curriculum.

The theme of the field study was “Dynamics of Governance in J&K since 2019: A Study of Jammu, Samba, Udhampur and Reasi Districts.” The initiative aimed to provide students with empirical exposure to governance processes and grassroots administrative functioning across key districts of the Jammu region, including Jammu, Samba, Udhampur and Reasi.

During the field engagement, students visited several strategically significant locations. In Jammu district, the team conducted field observations in Kotli Shah Doula and MC, R.S. Pura; in Samba district, the visit included Supwal and MC, Samba. In Udhampur, the team covered Garhi and MC, Udhampur, while the Reasi district included Sula Park and Mahadev Nagar. These visits enabled students to interact with local stakeholders and observe governance mechanisms at the grassroots level.

A total of 62 postgraduate students participated in the field study. The academic tour was coordinated by Dr. Shaveta Chowdhary, Coordinator Field Study, and Mr. Vishabjeet Singh Chib, Co-Coordinator Field Study who ensured the smooth conduct of the programme.

The field study was aimed to significantly enrich students’ practical understanding of post-2019 governance dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir and reinforced the department’s commitment to experiential learning and field-based research in political science.
