Department of Computer Science and IT, JU wins First Prize in AI and Data Analytics at National Hackathon Innovathon-1.0
Jammu, February 18: The Post Graduate Department of Computer Science and IT, University of Jammu, brought laurels to the institution by securing the First Prize in the “AI and Data Analytics” category at the prestigious National-level Hackathon “Innovathon-1.0”, organized by the Skill Incubation Innovation Entrepreneurship Development Centre (SIIEDC), University of Jammu, on February 16–17, 2026.
The two-day hackathon witnessed participation from students representing universities and institutions from across the country, who showcased their innovative ideas and technological solutions in various emerging domains.
Students of the MCA programme from the Department of Computer Science and IT impressed the jury with their innovative idea, which was adjudged as the Best Innovative Idea in the AI and Data Analytics category. The winning team was awarded the First Prize, comprising a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, during the valedictory and prize distribution ceremony held on February 17, 2026. The ceremony was graced by Shri Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir UT and Chancellor, University of Jammu, as the Chief Guest. Several dignitaries, including Heads of Departments, Rectors, Directors, faculty members, and officers of the University, were also present on the occasion.
The Hon’ble Chancellor appreciated the innovative spirit and dedication of the students and congratulated all participating teams for their remarkable efforts.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai, congratulated the winning team and the Department for this significant achievement. He stated that such accomplishments reflect the University’s commitment to promoting innovation, research, and skill development among students in line with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020. He expressed confidence that students would continue to excel and contribute meaningfully in the field of emerging technologies.
To honour the achievement, the Department of Computer Science and IT organized a felicitation ceremony for the winning MCA students. Prof. Vibhakar Mansotra, Head of the Department, congratulated the students for their outstanding performance and encouraged them to continue participating in national-level innovation platforms. He also assured full support to students for such initiatives that enhance their technical skills and academic growth.
Among others present during the felicitation ceremony were Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies; Prof. Prakash Antahal, Dean Students Welfare; Prof. Romesh Kumar; Prof. Lalit Sen; and other faculty members of the Department of Computer Science and IT, who appreciated the students’ achievement and motivated them to continue striving for excellence in innovation and research.
