University of Jammu successfully concludes Five-Day National Workshop on ‘Environmental Analysis Using R’

The Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu, successfully concludedthefive-day National Workshop on “Environmental analysis using R’.The workshop focused on strengthening the quality and impact of environmental research while promoting interdisciplinary interaction among participants and experts.

The valedictory function was graced byProf. J.P. Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, who presided over the function as Chief Guest.In his remarks, he stressed upon the need for interdisciplinary research and capacity-building programs such as this workshop for development of a vibrant research environment within the campus. He congratulated the department for choosing R as the central analytical platform which is an indispensable tool for modern environmental research.“In today’s data-intensive era, environmental scientists are required not only to collect quality data but also to analyze, visualize, and interpret it with rigor and transparency and R provides a powerful, open-source ecosystem for handling complex environmental datasets”, he said while addressing the participants He encouraged the department to continue undertaking such technical and research-oriented initiatives in the future.

The Special Guest and one of the resource personsof the event, Mr. Musadik Hussain, Deputy Director (Surveys), Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of J&K, appreciated that the workshop sessions were systematically organized, well-structured, and maintained a clear continuity, enabling participants to progressively build their understanding and effectively integrate concepts throughout the workshop.

The valedictorysession began with a welcome address by Prof. Deepika Slathia, Head & Convener. She apprised the gathering about the growing significance of the workshop for researchers and academicians alike in the present context, and the Department’s commitment to promoting such academic and research activities.She thanked the resource persons for their engaging sessions, clear explanations, and practical insights into the use of R for environmental analysis. She further added that their contributions were instrumental in enhancing the technical understanding of the participants.

Dr. Suresh Kumar, Organizing Secretary, presented a comprehensive report of the workshop, highlighting the sessions of the workshop held over 5 days which included various themes and the final session on advanced applications and reproducible research. Few participants of the workshop also shared the feedback during the function.The certificates were distributed amongst the participants during the valedictory function

The valedictory session was graced by Prof. Parmil Kumar, Department of Statistics, University of Jammu; Dr. Manoj Kumar, Assistant Professor, Centre for Economic Studies and Planning (CESP), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Sciences, and IT, Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu and members from Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of J&K. Besides faculty members including Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Dr. Neeraj Sharma, research scholars and students of the department were also present.

About 35 participants including research scholars and participants from different departments of University of Jammu, University of Kashmir, Islamic university of Science and Technology, Institute of Mountain Environment Bhaderwah Campus, Baba Gulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri and higher education department participated in the workshop.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Anshu Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences.The proceedings of the event were carried by Ms. Shivali Sharma, Research Scholar, Department of Environmental Sciences.
