Lecture on Cyber Security organized by the Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and Department of Botany, University of Jammu under the Viksit Bharat initiative
The Institution Innovation Council (IIC), University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Department of Botany, organized a lecture on “Cyber Security” under the Viksit Bharat initiative. The lecture was delivered by Sh. Mohd Yaseen Kichloo (IPS), SSP, Cyber Crime Investigation Centre for Excellence (CICE), Jammu and Kashmir. The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Veenu Kaul, President, IIC, University of Jammu, who introduced the objectives of the IIC and provided a brief profile of the resource person. Sh. Kichloo introduced the participants to the fundamentals of cyber security and highlighted various measures to safeguard mobile phones and electronic devices from cyber threats. He discussed several case studies of cyber frauds from Jammu and Kashmir as well as other regions of the country. Highlighting the importance of online safety, he urged participants to adopt two-step authentication for their social media accounts such as Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. He also informed the gathering about the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, a platform through which individuals can report cyber-related offenses. The session included a hands-on practical component, in which participants were guided to check their mobile phones for potential vulnerabilities, such as call forwarding status, the number of SIM cards issued in their name, and whether their email addresses had been compromised. Awareness videos illustrating various forms of cyber fraud, including cyber arrest scams, were also shown. The lecture concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Susheel Verma, Head, Department of Botany, University of Jammu. The event was attended by faculty members, research scholars, and M.Sc. students of the Department of Botany.
