Colonel Sudeshwar delivered an demonstration lecture on “Career opportunity in Art and Photography” at JUs Udhampur Campus

Udhampur, March 25, 2025 – The Udhampur Campus (Garnai-Lotta), University of Jammu, organized a one-day demonstration-cum-lecture on “Career Opportunities in Art and Photography.” The session featured Colonel Sudeshwar Sharma as the expert speaker and Prof. Sanjana Koul, Director, School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu, as the Chief Guest.

In his enlightening talk on the growing opportunities in photography and art, Col. Sharma, a seasoned officer, described the technical abilities necessary to develop a career, including camera handling, editing, digital tools, and business and marketing understanding. Drawing on his personal experiences, he believed that in addition to advancing one's profession, artistic and photographic abilities support mental fortitude, self-discovery, and the appreciation of nature's abundance. Col Sharma covered a range of career pathways, industry trends, and the influence of digital platforms like social media and NFTs. He emphasized how crucial it is to have a solid portfolio, network, and take part in exhibitions in order to gain professional recognition. They experimented with several approaches, such as lighting, framing, and composition, which enabled them to translate abstract ideas into real-world knowledge. Students were able to improve their abilities and comprehend the technical subtleties of photography through this interactive part. Col Sharma’s artistic abilities were displayed through an exhibition of paintings and photographs. With subjects ranging from abstract and contemporary art to environment and culture, the exhibition showcased a wide range of images and paintings. Another highlight of the event was the interaction between the students and the experts on the professional exhibiting techniques used in the exhibitions. In her remarks, Prof. Sanjana Koul congratulated the faculty and administration for arranging such career-oriented workshops and commended the academic and career-oriented activities being made at the Udhampur Campus. She urged youth to devotedly follow their artistic inclinations and underlined the value of exposing them to a variety of professional options.

Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences and the Rector, Udhampur Campus highlighted the growing importance of photography as an art form and a career, emphasizing its function in narrative, documenting, and creative expression. He also praised the chief guest and the expert for their meaningful contributions during the event. He urged students to choose photography as a career option in the media, advertising, journalism, and the arts. He thanked the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai, for his support of student-centered and career-oriented events on campus.

Earlier, Dr. Jyoti Sharma extended a warm welcome to the guests, Dr. Jyotishna introduced the expert speaker, and Ms. Taruna Dubey presented the vote of thanks. Faculty and students of School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu, and Udhampur Campus enthusiastically participated in the event, which promoted cross-disciplinary collaboration.
