The Department of Political Science, University of Jammu, successfully organized a field study visit to the Chenani Assembly Constituency for the Semester IV postgraduate students from March 4 to March 7, 2025. The field study was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Suman Jamwal, Head of the Department, as part of the MA programme’s final semester curriculum, focusing on "2024 Legislative Assembly Elections in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir: A Case Study of Chenani Assembly Constituency."
During the visit, students explored key locations within the constituency, including Madha-Chirdi, Gharrian Dhanas, Kudand Sudh Mahadev. A total of 57 students participated in the study, accompanied by Dr. Mool Raj, Coordinator Field Study, and Dr. Shaveta Chowdhary, Co-Coordinator Field Study. Prof. Suneel Kumar from the department provided students with valuable guidance on survey ethics and legal principles, ensuring a responsible and methodologically sound approach to data collection. Mr. Vishabjeet Singh Chib accompanied the students on the concluding day of the field study.
The field study allowed students to gain practical insights into electoral trends, voter behaviour, and political dynamics in the Chenani constituency. Through direct interactions with local residents, political representatives and other stakeholders, students deepened their understanding of grassroots democratic processes. After analyzing the questionnaires filled during the study, students will submit a comprehensive field study report to the Department of Political Science.
