On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, the Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu, organized an engaging book exhibition that highlighted the rich literary heritage of the Dogri.

The exhibition was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof. Suman Jamwal, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences.

A key highlight of the event was the thought-provoking discussion led by Dr. Sandeep Dubey, Assistant Professor in the Department of Dogri, on the topic of “Role of Libraries in the Promotion of the Dogri Language.” This engaging and interactive session offered a profound exploration of the complexities surrounding regional languages, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of the intricate connection between language, culture, and identity, and underscoring the pivotal role libraries play in preserving and promoting linguistic heritage.

The event attracted a distinguished and diverse gathering from across the University, including faculty, officers, non-teaching staff, research scholars, and students, all coming together to celebrate the significance of language and culture.

Organized under  the guidance of I/C Librarian Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, the exhibition showcased a wide collection of Dogri literature, including textbooks, reference materials, novels, fiction, and theses. The event emphasized the importance of preserving the mother tongue and promoted the need for linguistic diversity in today’s multicultural world.

The overall coordination of the program was managed by Deputy Librarian Mr. Rakesh Kumar, convener of the Library Activities Committee, ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for all involved.
